By now, you would’ve been bombarded with articles, posts and memes about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s beautiful engagement. In a blessed-yet-rogue move, Travis’ dad, Ed Kelce, has jumped on the blower with an Aussie radio show to spill the beans on what happened when the Kansas City Chiefs star got down on one knee and when he popped the question.
Speaking to 2Day FM’s The Jimmy & Nath Show with Emma, the patriarch of the Kelce family explained that he was over the moon to have Taylor join the family as his daughter-in-law.
“It’s wonderful,” he told the show.
“They’re two young people madly in love with each other, and I’ve never seen him quite so happy. I think this is great.”
Ed explained that both he, and Taylor’s dad, Scott Swift, had been in the ear of the footy player to try and get him to propose to The Life Of A Showgirl singer sooner.
“[Travis] sent me a picture of the ring — this is a while ago. Both sides of the family kind of assumed that this was going to happen because we’ve never seen our kids so happy,” he continued.
“It’s kind of funny. I was talking to Scott Swift, and Travis went to ask him for permission. And Scott — and this is probably a month ago — said, ‘Oh, come on, when are you gonna get this done?’
Thankfully, Travis had a plan to do it the next weekend, but wanted to make it as dreamy as possible.
“He had all these plans and was gonna make a big production out of it. He wanted to make it special. And I told him the same thing Scott told him: ‘asking her is what’s going to make it special. Not where you do it, you know what I mean? You could do it on the side of the road.
“Scott just said, ‘Don’t worry about any special date. You’re ready. You got the ring. Go do it.’”
With some solid advice from Ed and Scott, Travis got to work to set up his very own garden to be the most fairytale-esque proposal site as possible.
“That’s a garden in his house. He surprised her with that,” Ed shared, noting that the young couple were getting ready to go out for dinner until Travis ushered her into the garden.
“He said, let’s go out in the garden on that little patio and have a glass of wine before we go. They went out there and I think she knew something was up, because as they approached, as they walked out there, she could suddenly see there were a lot more flowers out there.
“You see the way that’s decorated? Yeah, that was all decorated by some people who helped Travis out with a lot of things, and they got it all ready. They actually saw them coming, and they hid in the bushes, so they weren’t part of it.”
Interestingly, Ed confirmed that Taylor and Travis have actually been engaged for a few weeks now and that they were definitely betrothed when they appeared together on Travis’ podcast New Heights.
“I think he proposed to her a week ago, last Sunday. Maybe, you know, because they did the podcast last week, and maybe there may even be another weekend, maybe…that foggy brain,” Ed shared, probably freaking out over what he just revealed.
“They did keep it quiet for a while because, you know, Taylor had the album coming out. You don’t want to take away the energy from that, and I think she didn’t want that to be a subject of discussion when the announcement was made.”

While Ed was more than happy to dish that the couple “most definitely” both want kids, he said he had “no comment” on any details on the wedding or when it would take place.
I bet Tree Paine is thanking her lucky stars that he reined it in for that question.
Either way, from the engagement to the announcement, I can feel the love radiating from Travis and Taylor and despite being a complete stranger, I am absolutely stoked for them.
