Travis Kelce probably won’t be going to the Golden Globes with Taylor Swift. Here’s why

This weekend wraps up the regular season of the NFL, and while some teams will be sweating things out, the Kansas City Chiefs can sit back and relax. The Chiefs secured the top spot in the AFC West. Although things weren’t super smooth down the stretch, the reigning Super Bowl champs defeated the Cincinnati Bengals last week to improve to 10-6.

Now the Chiefs will go on the road to close things out, but some of the big names likely won’t see action against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18. Head coach Andy Reid already announced that starting QB Patrick Mahomes will rest and Blaine Gabbert will get the nod instead.

Another name that will probably see little-to-no time on Sunday is tight end Travis Kelce. The two-time Super Bowl winner has been dealing with various injuries over the course of the season, and if they don’t need to play him, it’s a perfect time to rest up for the postseason.

This got some Swifties thinking, however. The 2024 Golden Globes are the same day and in the same city as Sunday’s Los Angeles-based game, and there’s a chance that Kelce’s girlfriend — pop legend Taylor Swift — might be in attendance as her Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie is nominated for an award.

Could Kelce rush over to walk the red carpet after the game? Sadly, probably not. NFL teams are usually required to travel to and from away games together, meaning there’s not really a situation where it’s likely that Kelce is able to arrange his own travel home.

Exceptions have been made for emergencies, but unfortunately I don’t think “We want to see Travis and Taylor on the red carpet at the Golden Globes” is on the same level as, say, someone’s spouse having a baby.

We can dream, though!
