Travis Kelce is in the news again, and this time for a surprising reason (aka not football or being Taylor Swift’s fiance!) This week, Six Flags teamed-up with the NFL Champion for a new partnership. JANA Partners sent out a release explaining their recruitment of the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and the resulting 9% ownership stake in Six Flags. It’s an interesting move for the NFL player as he looks ton build that business portfolio even further. (We can forecast a 200% increase in Swift’s music being played through the loudspeaker at Cedar Point over in Sandusky, Ohio.)
While JANA Partners is touting moves to improve guest experience, and let’s be real enhance shareholder value, there is a slight nostalgic angle to this news too. Like most kids from Northeast Ohio, Kelce remembered taking trips to Six Flags with his family. (Cedar Point is massive and if you’re a roller coaster person, The Millenium Force was a belle of the ball in the theme park community for a while there.) So, the NFL star is excited to bring the brand back to prominence with this new partnership.
Kelce said, “I am a lifelong Six Flags fan and grew up going to these parks with my family and friends. The chance to help make Six Flags special for the next generation is one I couldn’t pass up.”
Why did Six Flags need Travis Kelce’s help?

Some people out there might be wondering why Six Flags would need saving in the first place. But, it’s been a strange time for the longstanding entertainment company. Last year, Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair in a move that was heralded as good for both parties. But, one year later, Six Flags has changed CEOs and the workforce has faced significant challenges post-merger. (A 10% reduction in staff!)
Six Flags’ spokesman Gary Rhodes is already anticipating the work ahead with his new investors. “We appreciate the perspectives of shareholders and take their feedback seriously as we continue to advance our initiatives to increase attendance, enhance our guest experience and drive profitable growth and shareholder value.”
It’s no secret that all sorts of industries have faced challenges since 2020 here in America. Six Flags, and other American amusement parks have felt the crunch from a reduced labor environment and a challenging landscape for entertainment dollars. Every week is full of Chicken Little-style catastrophizing about some industry or another being doomed. Will Travis Kelce hurt their efforts? Unlikely, but maybe he can bring back the old dude on the bus!
