Police dashcam footage from officers responding to a fender bender near Leavenworth, Washington, shows accused killer dad Travis Decker just days before Decker allegedly suffocated and killed his three daughters and went on the run.
The nearly 20-minute clip reveals Decker’s behavior, offering insight into his frame of mind before the attack, based on how the other driver in the traffic accident described his behavior.
According to Seattle news outlet KING 5, the incident occurred on May 27, 2025, just days before Decker, a 32-year-old veteran with known mental health issues, picked up his daughters for a routine visit and failed to return them as planned.
Searchers found the children’s bodies dead from asphyxiation on June 2. Decker has been a fugitive since then.
“I could tell he was not in his full senses”

The driver in the May 27 minor traffic accident declined to be identified or speak on camera, but speaking anonymously, he did describe Decker’s demeanor and how he interacted with him and the officers who responded to the call.
According to the other driver, Decker’s body language seemed “almost intimidating,” and he was “nervous and fidgety” throughout the incident, locking the other driver in an aggressive 9-second-long handshake. But at times, Decker seemed exhausted.
The other driver later reported that Decker pleaded with him not to call police—allegedly because Decker did not have valid insurance, according to multiple sources. Decker hit the other car at a red light, and was unhoused, living in his truck, when his daughters died.
The other driver only discovered he had seen and talked to Decker just days before the brutal murder of his three daughters when reports surfaced that Decker’s daughters were missing. “I had to stop what I was doing and sit down,” the man said.
Another Decker hit-and-run reported
Meanwhile, another minor traffic accident involving Decker reportedly happened a few weeks before the May 27 collision. This time, Decker allegedly rear-ended another car with his truck and left the scene. The other driver followed Decker and recorded his license plate number, confirming the vehicle was registered to him. Accounts of the two traffic accidents indicate his declining mental state before the alleged triple murders.
Decker’s ex wife, Whitney Decker, the mother of his three daughters, formally requested changes to their joint custody agreement in September 2024, citing increasing concern over Travis’ emotional instability, unhoused status, and inability to maintain consistent housing and schedule, all of which she believed adversely affected their daughters, Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia, who were all under age 10 when they died.
In court filings, Whitney noted Travis had been diagnosed with PTSD, borderline personality disorder (BPD), and displayed escalating emotional issues, including narcissism. She also reported incidents of neglect, unusual or unapproved entries into her home, and failure to supervise their children when needed.
Decker remains at large, and multiple reported sightings across the Pacific Northwest have turned out to be false leads as authorities continue their search in remote areas and into Canada.
Decker reportedly has wilderness survival training. Authorities ask anyone who thinks they’ve seen Decker to call 1‑800‑336‑0102 (U.S. Marshals) or local law enforcement. A $20,000 reward is offered for info leading to his capture.
