Travelodge to open two new hotels in Bristol this year

A budget hotel operator is launching two new sites in Bristol and South Gloucestershire in 2021.

Travelodge is opening hotels in Emersons Green and Avonmouth, in addition to 11 further locations across the UK, three of which have recently welcomed their first guests.

The 90-bed hotel in Emersons Green, which opens this month, is part of a £22million development scheme that also includes a drive-thru Costa and a Greene King Chef & Brewer pub.

Property developer Hinton Group secured planning permission from South Gloucestershire Council in November 2019 and bought up the remaining land at Harlequin Office Park in March 2020.

The company's construction team, Hinton Design & Build, started building work on the Fieldfare development early last year.

Travelodge's new Avonmouth site, which is due to open off Goldcrest Way in May, will also have a bar cafe and function space and is expected to attract 40,000 people to the area each year, Bristol Live reported in 2018.

The five-storey accommodation has been built to serve the businesses in the Severnside employment area.

Property investment company Barwood Capital, the firm behind the Avonmouth site, is also building a petrol station and three drive-thrus on the plot of land.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge spokeswoman, said: "Travelodge was Bristol’s first branded budget hotel brand and we are delighted to celebrate three decades of offering good quality and great value accommodation, by opening a further two hotels in the city this year.

"These two new hotels will boost our network to seven properties in the city and with room rates starting from £29; they will be a strong magnet in attracting new business and leisure visitors to the area.

"This is great news for the Bristol economy as our research shows that Travelodge customers spend on average double their room rate with local businesses during their stay. Annually this spend can equate to a multi-million boost for the local economy."

The two hotels will offer Travelodge's new "SuperRooms" which have a number of features that set them aside from standard rooms.

The new Travelodges will bring the number of the chain's hotels in the Bristol area to seven, with other hotels at Severn View, Cribbs Causeway, Filton, Portishead, and two in the city centre.
