A Liverpool Travelodge branch is staying open to house critical workers and vulnerable groups after the chain faced criticism over its decision to shut hotels across the nation last month.
Travelodge is keeping its Liverpool Stoneycroft hotel, located near Broadgreen Hospital, open to help accommodate key workers.
The company faced fury in March after giving some families being housed in its hotels under agreements with local councils just hours to leave as it closed most of its premises.
That was despite government guidance saying hotels and hostels housing the vulnerable under agreements with local authorities could stay open.
Travelodge now says it is keeping just under 50 hotels across the country open, with 20 of those being located close to major hospitals.
It is also housing vulnerable families in agreements with around 30 local councils around the country.
A Travelodge spokeswoman said the chain was reviewing daily which hotels are best positioned to be open
She said: “In these unprecedented times, our hotel teams across the UK are working enormously hard, under great pressure, to support the national efforts.
“We have hotels open from Aberdeen to Plymouth, providing accommodation for critical workers and other groups.
“This includes 20 hotels close to major hospitals such as our Liverpool Stoneycroft Travelodge which is our closest hotel to Broadgreen Hospital.”
“We are reviewing daily which hotels are best positioned to support the needs that arise with the government while ensuring we comply with the restrictions in place to protect the public.”
Travelodge said that the majority of its hotels have had to close to comply with the government lockdown.
