Travellers with up to a dozen caravans pitch up at popular Swansea beachfront car park

Travellers with up to 12 caravans have pitched up in a car park in Blackpill, Swansea.

Around 15 other vehicles arrived with the caravans at the 138-space council-run car park this week.

The car park in Derwen Fawr Road, at the bottom of Clyne Valley, is situated close to Swansea beach and Blackpill Lido.

It is the second time this year travellers have turned up at the car park.

In February, around six caravans and a dozen other vehicles pitched up there.

Swansea has two recognised sites for use by travellers: an official site in Pant Y Blawd in Llansamlet, and a "tolerated" site in Swansea Vale.

In August last year, a group of travellers parked their caravans at one of the most beautiful properties in Mumbles, overlooking Swansea Bay.

In recent years, travellers have also pitched up on St Helen's recreation ground in Mumbles Road.

A spokesman for Swansea Council said: "We are aware of a number of vehicles which have recently arrived at one of our car parks.

"Discussions with the families are ongoing in line with Welsh Government guidance on managing unauthorised sites."
