Travellers spotted pitched up near University of Nottingham

A number of caravans have been spotted after pulling onto land near the University of Nottingham.

Around six caravans and around eight other vehicles have pitched up on the green area in front of Florence Boot Hall, near to Highfields Park.

Pictures show the site on Monday morning (July 20).

Nottingham City Council confirmed the site is on land controlled by the University of Nottingham.

Inspector Riz Khan, from Nottinghamshire Police said: "Nottinghamshire Police has been made aware of an unauthorised encampment at Highfields Park in Lenton.

“We are in contact with the local partners and the local policing team will be in the area today to engage with and respond to any concerns from both the local and travelling communities."

A spokeswoman for University of Nottingham said: “Our Security teams have been working with Police and the travellers to resolve the situation. We have started legal proceedings and will serve eviction notices if necessary.”
