Travellers set up encampment in St Werburgh's park

Travellers have set up camp in a park in St Werburgh's.

The group arrived in Mina Road Park over the weekend and the group remain on the site as of Monday morning (May 20).

One resident living nearby said the travellers had brought five or six horses with them, as well as camping equipment.

A spokesman for Bristol City Council said officers were aware of the vehicles at Mina Road Park.

"Officers have visited the site to issue a trespass notice, undertake welfare checks and offer access to the transit site in Avonmouth," he said.

A separate encampment recently set up in Weston-super-Mare, causing a trail of mess.

The group of around 25 caravans had been parked up at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre for 10 days.

They then left the site on May 19, ahead of North Somerset Council officers applying to the court on for a possession notice to evict them on May 20.

The group left piles of rubbish - including excretment, bedding and unused food - on the site.
