Travellers set up camp on grounds of Mansfield leisure centre as landowner informed

Travellers have arrived on the grounds of a popular Nottinghamshire leisure centre overnight, on Wednesday, May 25. The group appear to have set up camp at the back of the Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre in Mansfield.

Councillor Ben Brown, who represents West Bank for the Conservatives on Mansfield District Council, said the group seemed to have entered the grassland, at the back of the leisure centre, in Westdale Road. Images show four caravans two cars on site, with a number of chairs and a table set up on the grass area.

Cllr Brown added that he had been in touch with the relevant team at Mansfield District Council upon the arrival of the group to investigate.

A Mansfield District Council spokesperson said: “Mansfield District Council is aware of an unauthorised encampment of travellers who have pitched on private land near the Rebecca Adlington Leisure Centre in Mansfield. Officers from our Community Safety team visited the site this morning to conduct a welfare needs assessment with the group.

"Our officers have also advised the landowner on action to remove the travellers from this site and the appropriate next steps.”
