Travellers remain near popular beach despite claims they would be moved on

People living in Crosby say they are becoming increasingly frustrated about an illegal traveller camp near the beach.

Caravans and other vehicles were parked up at Burbo Bank Road North earlier this week - the latest in a series of new sites across Merseyside.

On Wednesday, Sefton Council said it was "aware" of the camp and was "undertaking the necessary welfare checks" before beginning a legal process to remove the vehicles.

But people living nearby are unhappy the camp remains in situ, as we head into the weekend.

One woman said: "I think it's a disgrace. Why haven't the council or police moved them on?

"If l put a tent up and camp there l would be moved."

Another added: "Council closes for the weekend, so there's no reason they'll move before Monday now.

"Maybe someone who has a tent or caravan should set up there and see if they get moved on.

"I wonder are they paying the parking charge and if not surely something can be done."

Previously, Sefton Council has also said: “In cases where there have been a number of previous encampments, we have been able to put preventative measures in place.”

The council has been approached for further comment.
