Travellers pitch up on school playing fields in Radcliffe

A number of travellers have pitched up on land in Radcliffe-on-Trent.

Dozens of caravans and vans pitched up on sports fields at the junction of the A52 and Bingham Road.

The field belongs to South Nottinghamshire Academy School and is used by pupils.

The school, the parish council and Nottinghamshire Police have all been made aware.

Local councillor for the Radcliffe-on-Trent ward, Abby Brennan, said: "We are aware of the travellers on the Bingham Road Playing Fields.

"This land is privately owned by the South Nottinghamshire Academy and as such, the Borough Council has no legal powers to move the group on.

"The Police are aware and we are assured that all the relevant agencies are working together to resolve matters as quickly as possible.

"We are staying in touch with local residents and the Parish Council to monitor the situation and we understand the landowners have begun the necessary legal action."

Nottinghamshire Police said: "Nottinghamshire Police has been made aware of an unauthorised encampment at a school playing field on Bingham Road in Radcliffe upon Trent.

"The Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Team has been in the area to engage with and respond to any concerns from both the local and travelling communities."

South Nottinghamshire Academy School was approached for a comment.
