Travellers pitch up near South Bristol cinema

Travellers have set up camp on a small patch of grass outside a popular public park.

At least six vehicles, and four caravans, have been sighted outside Hengrove Park on July 24.

Bristol City Council officers have visited the camp - which is believed to have arrived on Tuesday night.

Travellers, situated next door to Cineworld, have been offered to move to a transit park in Avonmouth .

A Bristol City Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of vehicles at Hengrove Park.”

“Officers have visited the site to issue a trespass notice, undertake welfare checks and offer access to the Transit site in Avonmouth.”

Bristol City Council has one permanent caravan site in Ashton Vale with 12 pitches and one transit site in Lawrence Weston with 20 pitches.

The travelling community were previously spotted three times at the Clifton Downs this year and at Durdham Down in June.

But it is not known if this is the same group of travellers.
