Travellers on Clifton Down refuse to move to transit site in Avonmouth

Travellers camped at a popular beauty spot have refused to move to a transit site in Avonmouth.

Around six caravans and several vans were spotted on Clifton Down on Monday (April 29).

The vehicles are parked near Ladies Mile - land which belongs to Bristol City Council .

Earlier this month, a group of caravans were stationed near the White Tree roundabout on Durdham Down.

One member of the camp told Bristol Live they were there to enjoy the Funderworld amusement park.

It is not known whether they have moved to this new site or whether another group have parked up.

Yesterday (April 30), a spokesperson for Bristol City Council confirmed the group had rejected an offer to move to a transit site.

"Officers visited the site on Friday and their offer of access to the transit site at Avonmouth was rejected," he said.

“The process for the removal of the group from the location at Ladies Mile has now been started.’’
