Travellers from WA now in Queensland must adhere to lockdown restrictions, CHO says

People in Queensland who have been in Perth or the Peel region in Western Australia on or since April 17 are required to comply with WA's lockdown measures.

Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan declared a snap three-day lockdown on Friday night after a Victorian man tested positive for COVID-19 in Melbourne after completing 14 days of hotel quarantine in WA.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young issued the new health directive on Friday evening for those in Queensland who had been in the affected WA region.

Those people are also required to get a COVID-19 test over the weekend and remain at home until they receive a negative result.

Until the lockdown is lifted, Queenslanders who were in the affected WA region would only be able to leave home for essential goods, health care, exercise or end-of-life visits.

Masks are also mandatory for those people when leaving home.

Mr McGowan confirmed the man was infectious in the community in WA for five days and a close contact of the man in Perth had also tested positive for the virus.

The lockdown came into effect from midnight Friday and is expected to be lifted in the early hours of April 27.
