Travellers evicted from train station set up new camp near council offices in lkeston

A group of travellers who were ordered to leave a train station by a council have now moved seven miles and set up camp behind a council’s headquarters.

About 20 caravans with French number plates were at Long Eaton train station on Sunday but have since left, having been served a Notice by Erewash Borough Council.

They have moved to another car park seven miles away in Ilkeston – and this one is right behind the borough council’s headquarters in the town centre, DerbyshireLive reports.

They have now been given another notice to move on from the town centre car park, which is in the centre of Ilkeston.

Erewash Neighbourhood Wardens posted on their Facebook page: "We can confirm the unauthorised encampment from Long Eaton Train Station has now left the site.

"Some members of the encampment are now on Pimlico Car Park, Ilkeston, and have been served with a notice to vacate the site by 09.30am tomorrow."

A spokesperson at the Reel Cinemas, which is next to the car park, said the travellers were taking up around half of the 140 spaces, but were not affecting their customers.
