Travellers' caravans have moved onto one of the most beautiful properties in Mumbles, Swansea

A group of travellers' caravans have moved onto a beautiful property with one of the best views in Swansea leaving residents in the area worried and upset.

Witnesses, who complained about noise from the caravans, said there are a number of caravans parked in the driveway of Mumbles Hill House, overlooking Swansea Bay.

The property, set in 1.43 acres of land at the top of the headland, was recently on the market for £1.5m and there is a planning application to demolish the existing home and build a six-bedroom family house with swimming pool, library, observatory, granny annexe and triple garage.

Amy Jenkins who lives in the area said that she is extremely concerned.

"I spoke to the travellers yesterday and they said that they are planning on staying. There's a pregnant woman living there and she said she is staying until the baby is born.

"It's a quiet area and we are already noticing the noise," she said.

The 36-year-old has said that residents are upset.

"We don't know what's going to happen.

"I am worried, this is going to affect the local area," she added.

South Wales Police said it was aware that travellers are on the property.

WalesOnline has made efforts to contact the owner of the property, who is understood to be aware of what's happening.

Mumbles Hill House was formerly known as Somerset House. It is understood that the property was built as a public house in 1849 and later used as a domestic residence.

After the second world war, the house became a guest house and later as a residential nursing home for the elderly.

"I was walking my dog on Monday and a group of boys showed me where  they were staying, there was lots of  noise.

"I could see about four caravans," the 52-year-old said.
