Traveller camp moves onto Horfield Common with Motocross bike and JCB

A large traveller camp has arrived on Horfield Common - with reports of fields being ripped up with a digger.

There were around 10 caravans on the park, behind Horfield Leisure Centre on Dorian Road, this morning (September 2).

Pictures show several Range Rovers and trucks also on the site.

One man visiting the park told Bristol Live the vehicles in the camp include a digger and dirt bike.

He said: "There was a boy of about 13 driving a Motocross bike across the fields and ripping them up. They’ve also got a small JCB."

An admin of Facebook group Friends of Horfield Common posted yesterday: "Bristol City Councillors & Officers are aware that a new group of travellers have arrived on the common this afternoon."

A spokesman for the council confirmed it is pursuing a court order.

There have been several encampments at the site in recent months.

It is understood a previous traveller camp pitched up at the park around August 19, having moved on from Clifton Down.

Weeks earlier, a group of travellers with around 20 caravans had parked on Horfield Common before moving onto the nearby Wellington Hill playing field on July 31.

The council attended the camp on that occasion, carrying out a welfare assessment and then serving an eviction notice. Police also attended.
