Traveller camp moves from one popular Bristol park to another

A traveller camp has moved on from the Downs to Horfield Common.

A group of 11 caravans and several other vehicles pitched up on the Downs, in Clifton, on Sunday evening (April 18), according to Bristol City Council.

The council says it visited the site to issue a trespass notice and made welfare checks. Pictures from Tuesday show seven officers walking across the green space to speak to the travellers.

The council served a court order yesterday (April 21) and cleared the camp, but the group has since moved onto another park in north Bristol.

A council spokesman said: “We are aware of 11 caravans and a number of other vehicles that have moved onto Horfield Common.

"We have visited the occupants to carry out welfare assessments, while trespass notices have been served and proceedings started for a possession order.’’

There were several traveller camps on the Common during the warmer months of last year.

Caravans, Range Rovers and trucks were seen on the site last September, following previous camps on August and July.

One of those was believed to have moved onto the Common from the Downs.
