Travel without moving at 'The Flight'

Art viewers are invited to search for the meaning of home during "The Flight", which is running at Charoen AArt until July 26.

In her first solo exhibition in Bangkok, Barcelona-based artist Ioana Vrabie takes viewers to explore movement, memory and the feeling of being in one place while simultaneously drifting elsewhere.

At the centre of the exhibition is a search for the meaning of "home", not as a fixed place, but as something briefly felt through light, atmosphere, touch, memory and the presence of others.

Presented inside a renovated shophouse that was once a family home, the exhibition unfolds through three connected sections -- "Gate", "Cabin" and "Above The Clouds".

The experience gradually transitions from an open-front space to quieter, more intimate interior rhythms before opening again onto a mezzanine filled with translucent suspended works that move gently with light and air.

Photography becomes a way of holding onto something that cannot be fully fixed; a trace of what remains rather than what is clearly seen. The exhibition invites viewers into a slower experience in which meaning gradually emerges through presence, movement and atmosphere.

Vrabie's work with analogue film involves constructing images through multiple exposures made directly in-camera. These images gradually gather fragments of time, place and emotion into layered photographic images, reflecting the shifting, incomplete and never fully fixed nature of memory itself.

Through textile interventions and suspended installations, her works extend beyond the photographic image into tactile and spatial experiences. Snow-covered landscapes from Finland gradually meet the warmth of Bangkok, while traces of Romania, Italy, Indonesia, Vietnam and Spain slowly dissolve into one another.

Charoen AArt is on Charoen Krung Road and opens daily from 11am to 7pm, except Monday.
