Travel warning issued to tourists visiting France for the Women's World Cup or a holiday

The Foreign Office has issued a warning to anyone travelling to France this summer, whether it's for the FIFA Women's World Cup or a holiday.

With England already confirmed in the last 16 of the tournament and Scotland still in with a chance, it's expected that more fans will be making their way to France to support the teams.

But a number of issues in the country have led to the Foreign Office to issue warnings and tips to tourists.

Protests associated with the yellow vest movement for economic justice are continuing throughout the country and generally take place on Saturdays.

Previous demonstrations have led to extensive damage in Paris and other cities.

The Foreign Office suggests that motorists travelling through France should drive with caution as there may be local demonstrators present and avoid areas of conflict wherever possible, following the advice of the local authorities.

The presence of heavily armed police should be expected if the protests become violent.

A warning is also in place informing tourists that all vehicles travelling through central Paris, Lyon and Grenoble now need to display a ‘pollution sticker’ from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday.

Some older cars don't qualify for the sticker due to high emissions, so these can't be driven in certain parts of the country.

For more information about driving in France and the 'pollution sticker' visit the French Ministry of Environment website.

A third warning has been issued for the presence of migrants in Calais, who are seeking to enter the UK.

Instances of migrants slowing down traffic on approach roads to ports have been reported, and the Foreign Office have suggested that you should keep moving where it’s safe to do so, or call 112 if it isn’t safe to proceed.

There has also been the threat of terrorism attempts in France, meaning that the French government have warned the public to be especially vigilant as well as reinforcing security measures.
