Tasmania's Premier has revealed more details about how the State Government's travel voucher scheme will work.
The 'Make Yourself at Home' voucher incentive scheme was announced earlier this month in response to the economic downturn due to coronavirus.
The scheme is designed to bolster tourism and hospitality businesses by encouraging Tasmanians to travel within the state, and have flow-on benefits to other businesses.
Premier Peter Gutwein said under the $7.5 million scheme, families of five would be able to claim up to $550 in travel vouchers for accommodation and experiences within the state from next month.
A new online registration system will open on September 7, allowing people to register as a single adult or a couple, or as a family.
One adult can register for one $100 accommodation voucher and one $50 experience voucher.
A couple can access up to two $100 accommodation vouchers to use on different nights and two $50 experience vouchers.
Families can register either as a single parent or for two parents and can access up to two $150 accommodation vouchers to use on different nights, as well as one $50 experience voucher for each parent, and a $50 experience voucher is available for each child up to a maximum of three children.
People will pay and undertake their travel activity, and then claim the value of their vouchers using their receipts for eligible accommodation or an eligible experience.
"Our priority during COVID-19 has been protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of Tasmanians," Mr Gutwein said.
"But we know that our tourism and hospitality industry has been one of the hardest hit as a result of the necessary restrictions we have had to put in place and we must continue to support the sector over the next few months.
"I encourage all Tasmanians to get out there, experience what is without doubt the best place in the world, and in doing so, support our regions, our businesses, families and communities.
'First in, best dressed' says Premier
Once vouchers have been redeemed, people will be able to apply for more, Mr Gutwein said, but he urged people to be quick.
"This is a first in, best dressed scenario, I would expect we would have thousands of hits on the website next Monday morning," he said.
"I would hope that the website doesn't crash, but I expect that there will be significant interest in this, and to be frank I am readying myself for that eventuality, because I think that Tasmanians will apply in droves.
Mr Gutwein said he expected there would be a significant flow-on benefit to the state.
"People are going to spend money on accommodation, they're going to spend money on petrol, on food, they're going to have a voucher they can go and have a tourism experience as well, and again, they'll spend money whilst doing that," he said.
"We expect the multiplier to be somewhere between two to three times the investment that we are making … but it will depend on how willing people are to get out and enjoy this great state.
"I think that they will be very willing and I don't think that there will be any trouble spending the $7.5 million."
The scheme will run until December 1.
