Travel Scotland: How to show proof of your booster vaccine as covid rules change

Many people are now thinking about travelling and getting their holiday booked at long last.

Whether it's a few nights away or a few weeks abroad, many are looking forward to getting away.

However, travel has become more stressful now that there are rules we need to follow thanks to covid and the spread of the latest variant, omicron - and its sub-variant.

Countries such as France and Spain have recently updated their travel rules regarding vaccination.

This means that there is now a time limit when it comes to your vaccines.

As a result, if you have not had your second dose within the last 270 days (or nine months), you must have had your booster vaccine - and you will need to show proof of this.

If you are unable to do so, you will need to follow the rules for unvaccinated passengers which for example, would mean that you would need to self-isolate for 10 days in France.

So how do you show proof of vaccination and your booster dose?

Travellers may have to show proof that they have either had two doses including their booster or three doses which will also include the booster.

People travelling from Scotland should download the NHS Scotland COVID Status app.

This app - also referred to as a covid passport - contains details of the vaccine doses you've received meaning you can use it to prove you've been vaccinated against coronavirus.

You can get your covid status for travelling abroad if you're 12 or over and have been vaccinated in Scotland.

Your first dose, second dose and booster should all be stored on the app.

You can request a paper copy here.

Do not contact your GP practice about your coronavirus vaccination status. GPs cannot provide letters showing your coronavirus vaccination status.

You can usually get your covid status within 24 hours of having your vaccination. However, it can take up to 5 days for your records to be updated.

You can download the NHS Scotland covid app via Google Play store here or the App Store here.
