Travel NI: All the countries on Northern Ireland's green list

All countries have been removed from Northern Ireland's red list following a UK-wide decision by ministers.

The travel red list was reintroduced in late November in a bid to stop the Omicron variant entering the UK.

Passengers coming to Northern Ireland were required to isolate for ten days in a quarantine hotel.

But the Omicron variant is now spreading fast in the UK, and is “probably the most significant threat since the start of the pandemic” according to Dr Jenny Harries, the head of the UK Health Security Agency.

This means the red list no longer effective in stopping the spread. So, as of 4am on Wednesday, December 15, the red list has once again been scrapped.

Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe were on the red list up until it was scrapped.

The status of international countries is reviewed every three weeks.

Everyone aged 12 and over must still take a PCR or LFD COVID-19 test before they travel to Northern Ireland from abroad. This applies whether passengers are fully vaccinated or not.

Arrivals must also stay in isolation until they get a negative result from the day two PCR test. If their day two test is positive, they must remain in self-isolation for 10 days from their arrival.

Non-vaccinated arrivals must book a day eight test too, and they can only leave the 10-day isolation if this is negative.
