Travel expert reveals conversion rate mistake that causes holidaymakers to lose out

Travelling is one of life's greatest joys, as many people will agree. However, booking a holiday or getaway can get rather costly, which is why any way to save money when organising a trip is very welcome. One expense that tends to catch people out is converting cash last minute, as airport rates or drawing money while you're on your trip can prove to be rather pricey.

Thankfully, an expert traveller has warned people not to fall victim to an easy mistake when withdrawing travel money abroad - as it means that you're "losing money". The thrifty and avid explorer revealed how she's saved tons of cash with an essential travel hack that deals with dreaded conversion rates - and it's via a simple click of a button.

Sharing the revolutionary hack on popular video-streaming platform TikTok, the travel whizz, who goes by the social media handle @kybetravel, detailed how the quick hack at a cash machine could potentially save you £10 per transaction.

Comparing the prices of a cash machine's automated conversion percentage to one on her Monzo card, the prices were noticeably different.

Captioning the post, the keen explorer wrote: "TRAVEL HACK!!! How to save money when withdrawing cash abroad."

"If you're not doing this when you withdraw money abroad, then you're losing money every time you cash out," she said.

"Here I am withdrawing 100 euros from my Monzo card and being shown what the conversion from pounds to euros is.

"As you can see 100 euros will cost £98.83, but instead of accepting the conversion, I'm going to click 'Accept without conversion'.

"As soon as that's processed Monzo will let me know that the transaction was going to cost me £98.83 actually cost me £88.04, saving me just over £10!"

Not only can it save you some extra pennies when you physically retrieve cash - but others have also claimed that it works at restaurants abroad.

Quite clearly ecstatic with their new game-changing hack, holidaymakers were keen to praise the ideas in the comment section - with several sharing money-saving hacks of their own.

One woman praised the tip: "Yess such an important hack! Also do the same in shops / restaurants when they ask if you want to accept conversion!!"

"No matter what bank card you have, always press don’t accept conversation as it’s the atm charging the fee on top of your bank," a second agreed.

"Oh no!!!!!!!!!! I just finished my holiday and kept clicking the conversion," one fallen victim claimed.

A fourth said: "Contact your bank and they can put the right currency on your card and do it at their rate not at the ATMs rate."
