Travel chaos on M8 as emergency services race to multi-vehicle crash

Scots motorists are facing delays after a multi-vehicle collision on the M8 in West Lothian this morning.

Part of the motorway, at Junction 3A Bathgate is currently restricted due to the smash, which took place shortly after 7am this morning. Police are at the scene and pictures uploaded by Traffic Scotland show a smashed up white van in the middle of the road, reports Edinburgh Live.

Traffic is being diverted and it is advised delay should be expected of around 40 minutes.

Alerting motorists to the incident, Traffic Scotland tweeted: "UPDATE: 07:12 M8 Junction 3A The Eastbound carriageway currently restricted due to a collision. Police are in attendance. Traffic is able to pass on the hard shoulder. Traffic is heavy in the area.

"Current delays approx. 40 minutes. Take Care on approach."

As well as the damaged van, two other cars can be seen parked at the side of the inside lane on the motorway, with other vehicles slowing to pass the incident on the hard shoulder.

It is unclear whether there are any injuries at this time.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 7am on Wednesday 21 September, 2022, police were made aware of a road crash involving two vehicles on the M8 eastbound carriageway near to J3A. Emergency services are in attendance. We are unaware of any injuries. Officers remain on the scene."
