Emergency services temporarily closed the westbound carriageway near the Lothianburn junction following reports of a collision at around 7.20am on Wednesday.

Traffic Scotland has warned vehicles are now queuing up past Sheriffhall as commuters attempt to get to work.

Police have confirmed that two cars were involved with two people taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

The westbound carriageway was reopened shortly after 8am but travellers faced massive delays.

Traffic Scotland tweeted: "A720 Lothianburn. Traffic on the move again Westbound with all lanes running. Long delays this morning back from Sheriffhall. Approx 1 hour 20 minute delays."

"The road was closed and reopened around 8.15am.
