Thousands face chaos at London Euston after signal failure sparks huge delays

Signal failures at London's Euston station has brought travel chaos for thousands of passengers who are facing delays this evening.

A signal fault outside the station grounded many trains, with passengers now facing a back-log of delays.

Disruption at London's fifth busiest railway station is expected until around 8pm, with warnings that "trains may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised".

Pictures from the concourse at Euston showed crowds of passengers stranded.

Trains from other parts of the country bound for Euston have also been cancelled, including services from Manchester and Birmingham New Street.

Those travelling on Virgin Trains can use their tickets for travel tomorrow or receive a full refund, the train operator announced.

London Northwestern, running services from the capital to northwest England, is trying to source road transport for passengers.

Customers can also use their tickets on Chiltern Railways, Cross Country, East Midlands Trains, Great Western Railway, London Overground, Thameslink, Virgin Trains and Southern via any reasonable route, the operator announced.

One passenger Michael Brown tweeted: "Yet again stuck at Euston Station and as usual Virgin Trains customer information is non existent."

Nick Flood added: "Avoid Euston if you can. Been stuck on a train outside London for the last hour."

Mark Ling said: "Another day in Paradise services suspended at Euston. It’s appalling we invented the railway but are incapable of running them successfully."

In their latest Twitter update, London Euston said: "Power has been restored at Euston and signals are now working.

"We're sorry to passengers as significant disruption is expected while trains get back to normal."

They advised passengers to check whether their service is running for arriving at the station.
