Travel chaos as 'thundersnow' hits Falkirk overnight leaving cars and buses stuck

Heavy 'thundersnow' across Falkirk overnight caused issues on the roads this morning.

Higher parts of the district were worst hit, with reports of cars and buses becoming stuck in Maddiston, Slamannan and Limerigg.

Police urged drivers not to abandon their vehicles.

Locals took to social media asking motorists to leave plenty of time to travel.

Issues were also reported on the M80 motorway network between Haggs and Moddiesburn.

Emergency services rushed to deal with a crash on the A801, Avon Gorge between Falkirk and Bathgate.

The road had to be closed while gritting teams made the area safe.

No injuries were reported.
