AGRA: A day after a 10-year-old climate activist shared pictures of heaps of plastic waste around the Taj Mahal on her Twitter handle, Agra Municipal Corporation imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on a private company tasked to maintain sanitation and hygiene in a 2-km radius of the World Heritage site.
On the orders of divisional commissioner Amit Gupta, the AMC sent a team of 12 sanitation workers to clear the trash and clean up the area.
Talking with TOI, municipal commissioner Nikhil T Funde said, “Taking cognizance of the trash littered near the monument at Dusshera ghat, a fine of Rs 1 lakh has been imposed on the agency entrusted to keep it clean.”
