Transport Police carry out welfare check in Newark

British Transport Police officers got their teeth into a variety of tasks overnight as they displayed the broad spectrum of their work.

A concern for welfare in the Newark area was top of its agenda.

The term "welfare check" derives from when an external agency asks officers to visit someone who is believed to be vulnerable for some reason.

Officers also did cable theft patrols in the Ilkeston area before travelling to Burton-on-Trent after reports of suspicious behaviour at a line-side location.

The duty sergeant at Nottingham also made an arrest for an assault on a Nottinghamshire Police officer.
