Transport bosses urging Courteeners fans to WALK back to the city centre from from Heaton Park concert

Transport bosses are encouraging Courteeners fans to WALK after this weekend's massive gig in Heaton Park.

Bosses have asked fans to consider walking from Heaton Park to Manchester city centre at the end of their concert on Saturday night .

In a tweet, TfGM said: "Roads and public transport are expected to be extremely busy following Courtneers tomorrow night.

"Could you consider walking back to the city centre from Heaton Park?

"It may be your quickest option and it'll help burn off the calories."

The tweet was posted alongside a map of the 4.5-mile walking route from the park to the city centre.

50,000 fans are expected to descend on the north Manchester park for the event.

Courteeners will be supported by Manchester icons James as well as DMA's and Pale Waves.

It will be the Middleton band's joint-largest concert of their careers, tied with 2017's gig at Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

It comes just hours after TfGM caused confusion by appearing to urge Rod Stewart fans to walk for almost two hours after his gig tonight due to limited train services.

The Maggie May singer is performing at the University of Bolton Stadium which is a five-mile walk from the town centre.

In a tweet, Transport for Greater Manchester encouraged concert-goers to make the journey on foot when the show ends at 10.30pm.

The message was met with criticism from some Twitter users.

Rob Bond wrote: "I'm all for a nice little walk but nearly two hours at near midnight I think you are taking the p**s really."

Taxi Mike Tweeted: "Railway station next door to the the stadium, why?"

They later highlighted the fact that seven trains were scheduled to leave from the nearest station, Horwich Parkway, after the gig.
