Translink to finalise Night Bus timetable in the coming weeks

Translink has said that the timetables for the upcoming night bus service will be finalised in the coming weeks.

The public transport provider has said that it will be running late buses and trains from the end of November in order to help people in the run-up to Christmas.

It will build on a previous trial scheme that Translink ran in 2019 prior to the coronavirus pandemic, which put future plans on hold.

A Translink spokesperson said: “We will be operating late night bus, coach and train services on a number of routes in the run up to Christmas.

“Timetables are being finalised and full details will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Timetables will be available on our website www.translink.co.uk or visit the journey planner.”

Last month, Director of Service Operations at Translink, Ian Campbell, highlighted to Belfast Live how the previous trial scheme worked.

He said: "In 2019, we ran a number of late night services along the main arterial routes in Belfast. This included Antrim Road, York Road, Upper Newtownards Road, Holywood Road, Cregagh Road, Ormeau, Malone, Falls and the Shankill - all the main routes on Belfast metro were covered with late night services.

"Along with this, a number of late night bus and rail services were also put on to facilitate towns across Northern Ireland. This included rail services to Bangor, Larne, Portadown and Coleraine and Gold Line services to the likes of Derry, Newcastle, Newry, Ballyclare and Dungannon.

"The aim was to make sure there was a service where there was demand for one."

The services in 2019 ran up to midnight and 12.30am, with the main purpose of the trial being to boost the city centre economy, particularly the hospitality sector in the run-up to Christmas.
