Ticket checkers on the new Glider service are facing a litany of abuse from customers, new figures reveal.
A Freedom of Information request by Belfast Live shows that more than 30 physical and verbal abuse attacks have been reported on staff since the service began at the end of last year.
Earlier this month, Belfast Live revealed that the Glider vehicles and equipment has last year.
Since September there have been:
- 27 verbal attacks on customer and revenue protection staff
- 3 physical attacks on customer and revenue protection staff
- 4 verbal attack on Glider drivers
- 1 physical attack on Glider drivers
Translink said that they "completely condemn any attacks or verbal assaults on our staff".
They added: " In addition, vandalism and antisocial behaviour like this inconveniences customers and increases service operating costs. It is very disappointing and is detrimental to the service we provide, with the local community ultimately suffering.
"We have CCTV systems on board our Glider vehicles and at halts and we work closely with the PSNI , community and elected representatives to reduce and prevent acts of vandalism and anti-social behaviour so we can maintain the high calibre of service our customers deserve.
"We operate a cash reward scheme offering up to £1,000 to any member of the public who witnesses any incident of vandalism against our vehicles or property and is prepared to give evidence in court, resulting in a conviction."
