Translink cancels Bangor to Portadown train services over "disruptive passengers"

Some Northern Ireland Railways services between Bangor and Portadown were cancelled earlier today due to “disruptive passengers”.

Translink made the announcement on Twitter saying: "Due to disruptive passengers the 11:55 #Bangor to #Portadown was terminated at Lisburn. It will no longer call at Moira, Lurgan and Portadown. Sorry for any inconvenience."

Also a result the 13:45 Portadown to Bangor train service was also cancelled.

A Translink spokesperson told Belfast Live: "A passenger on board the 11.55am Bangor to Portadown train became aggressive towards other passengers and towards the conductor when he intervened.

"The train was terminated at Lisburn and the PSNI was called for support.

"We view this behaviour as entirely unacceptable and we apologise to those passengers whose journey was disrupted.

"Translink operates a reward scheme of up to £1000 for a member of the public who witnesses anti-social incidents against its’ staff, vehicles or property and is prepared to give evidence in court, resulting in a conviction."

Police said a 40-year-old woman was arrested over several offences and is currently in custody assisting them with their enquiries.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police responded to a report of disorderly behaviour aboard the Translink Portadown to Bangor train service at approximately 1.10pm today, Thursday July 29th.

"The train was travelling in the direction of Belfast before it had to stop due to the disorderly behaviour of a passenger at Lisburn Train Station. Police attended and assisted Translink staff.

"A 40-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including common assault, assault on police and criminal damage.

"The woman currently remains in police custody assisting with enquiries."
