Transfer twist over Nottingham Forest star emerges as boss hails impact

Chris Hughton hailed Glenn Murray’s impact at Nottingham Forest as the striker scored twice on his full debut to help seal a 3-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers.

The former Brighton forward, who has  signed a permanent deal  until the end of the season, opened his account when he lobbed Ryan Allsop in what was a wonderful finish.

He then added Forest’s second from the penalty spot, having won the spot-kick himself when he was clipped inside the area.

Anthony Knockaert then  wrapped the game up  for the Reds with a stunning strike, but naturally all the questions post-match centred on Murray’s performance.

Transfer talk

Glenn Murray has quickly made an impact at Nottingham Forest - but his January transfer window could have panned out very differently.

The striker signed a short-term contract with the Reds on deadline day as he made the move from Brighton and Hove Albion, reuniting with Chris Hughton, who he worked with on the south coast.

Murray had spent the first half of the season on loan at Watford, but had been struggling for regular game time and was said to have been training on his own prior to his departure.

Hughton was keen to link up again with the front man, who marked his full debut for the club with a brace against Wycombe Wanderers.

But League One Plymouth Argyle tried to gatecrash his move to the City Ground, according to their manager.

Relishing reunion

Anthony Knockaert has spoken of his delight at linking up again with man of the moment Glenn Murray for Nottingham Forest.

The duo, who both worked under Reds boss Chris Hughton during his time at Brighton and Hove Albion, played key roles in a 3-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

Murray set the visitors on their way with a strike in each half, before Knockaert put the seal on a fine result by bagging Forest’s third.

It was the Fulham loanee’s third goal of the season in the Garibaldi, and made it back-to-back wins for Hughton’s men.
