Transfer target Jarrad Branthwaite watches Everton with Marcel Brands and Duncan Ferguson present

Jarrad Branthwaite watched Everton under-23s tonight as the Blues work on a deal to bring him to Goodison.

The 17-year-old is in Southport as the young Blues take on Arsenal in a Premier League 2 clash.

Everton are looking to close a deal for the Carlisle United teenager who has been watched by clubs scouts on several occasions.  

Should the Blues complete his signing then he is expected to join David Unsworth’s under-23 squad.

Both Celtic and Rangers were credited with being admirers but it now seems Everton have stepped ahead in the race for his signature as he took in the game with family at Haig Avenue.

Marcel Brands and Duncan Ferguson were also present.

Branthwaite made his senior debut for the League Two side earlier this season but has not featured for Carlisle since Boxing Day after picking up an injury.

The ECHO understands a deal is not yet complete but Everton are hopeful of securing his signature.
