Transfer state of play on Morelos, Dembele and Tierney as Ryan Kent gets life after Rangers hype man

The dawn of the new season is mere weeks away but there is still plenty to be resolved for a number of big names.

Alfredo Morelos was once tipped to land Rangers some mega cash but he's a free agent now after Michael Beale decided against a major push to keep him and he's yet to find a new club ahead of the big kickoff. The same goes for Moussa Dembele, who banked Celtic £19.7m back in in 2018 but there will be no sell-on percentage as he also leaves Lyon under freedom of contract.

Ryan Kent does have a new club and Fenerbahce boss Ismail Kartal has assessed his debut. There's also an update on Kieran Tierney whose future at Arsenal continues to swirl into doubt as he remains their second-choice left-back to Oleksandr Zinchenko - a situation he'll be keen to resolve 12 months out from (hopefully) another Euros to star in. Record Sport have all the latest on the big names right here.

Ryan Kent

There's a sense of mystery surrounding Kent's move to Fenerbahce. Michael Beale strongly hinted reports were wide of the mark when he was first strongly linked back in May, but after signing he said he'd been keen on the move since the Turkish club first expressed interest - which came six months ago according to the club's president.

Either way, he's a Fenerbahce player now and made his debut in a friendly against Zenit St Petersburg on Sunday evening. And manager Ismail Kartal was impressed with what he saw from both Kent, who started on the left wing opposite fellow winger Burak Kapacak.

Fener ultimately lost on penalties after a 0-0 draw but Kartal said: "Ryan Kent did really well and I thought our play from both our wingers was excellent for this stage of the season," Kartal said. They were fast and direct. We tried to use as many players as possible, but it was a great workout in front of 40,000 fans and we thank Zenit for the invitation to come to Russia.

"We have got a European match coming up so we are racing against time to get the players as fit as possible and get as many minutes on the pitch as can be done. The energy and enthusiasm in the team is very good. We are working well, they are all very willing."

Alfredo Morelos

Ryan Kent and Scott Arfield were snapped up almost instantly after leaving Rangers but the same can't be said for Alfredo Morelos who is yet to find a new club. Once tipped as a big-money asset at Ibrox, his contract was allowed to run down with Michael Beale not seeing enough to justify a substantial attempt to keep him.

Last season was one of his poorest in a Rangers shirt but he still notched 12 goals and still only 27, he has a few clubs who feel they can help him get things back on track. There has been some chatter over a potential reunion with Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia but there is nothing substantial in that at this stage.

Everton have been linked with Sean Dyche potentially taking a chance on a free transfer while Sevilla have also been keen in the past. Most recently it's interest from an unnamed club in Azerbaijan making the headlines but it remains to be seen where he sees his future .

Moussa Dembele

Another free agent striker on the hunt for a new club is Dembele who walked away from Lyon when his contract expired. His stock is arguably the lowest it's been since leaving Celtic but it was only the season before last that he notched 21 Ligue 1 goals proving there is still a top player in there.

Wolves have been one of the clubs most heavily linked since his departure from Lyon and it's believed he is keen on a crack at the English Premier League after leaving Fulham back in 2016. They've had a bizarrely slow window, with third-choice keeper Tom King their only signing so far, and landing Dembele could kick things into overdrive.

Everton have also been credited with an interest while Galatasaray are thought to be keen and clubs in Saudi Arabia are reported to have sounded him out. So it seems like a choice between cashing in for the Middle East big bucks or one more crack at the European big time for the French hitman.

Kieran Tierney

Now Arsenal's second-choice left-back, Tierney's career has stagnated slightly over the last 12 months and who could blame him for looking at his options, especially with a European Championships (hopefully) on the horizon. He'll want to be in form firing for Germany in 12 months, not that he'll have any issues getting into Steve Clarke's team if fit.

He had been heavily tipped to leave the Gunners with Newcastle linked earlier in the window while a potential swap with Man City's Joao Cancelo was briefly on the cards, although Celtic would be keen to see the latter given a wide berth as it would mean no return from their sell-on clause. There's also been interest from Germany with an exciting move to Bayer Leverkusen talked up.

Tierney was touted for a loan return to Parkhead although it's unlikely Mikel Arteta would sanction that given there is little to gain from Arsenal's perspective. An outright sale to another Premier League club or Europe would likely be the preferred option but he won't come cheap. Otherwise, Arteta wouldn't say no to having him available for their return to the Champions League.
