Transfer stance set out amid link to Nottingham Forest man

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith has been linked with a deadline day switch to Huddersfield Town.

However, it is a move which seems unlikely to happen. The Terriers are in the market for another shot-stopper before tonight’s 11pm deadline, but they are understood to have another target in mind.

According to our sister title YorkshireLive, Huddersfield are working on a deal to sign Olympiacos’ Czech international Tomas Vaclik. And while the club will keep their options open until pen is put to paper, agreeing terms with Vaclik would, it is said, rule out Smith coming in.

Forest are also in the hunt for a keeper before the window closes, following an injury to Dean Henderson. They have been pursuing PSG’s Keylor Navas, but it remains to be seen whether they are able to get the signing over the line.

Henderson is expected to be sidelined with a thigh problem for between four to five weeks after suffering the injury in the 2-0 victory over Leicester City earlier this month. Wayne Hennessey has stepped in during his absence, with Smith as back-up on the bench. The latter will be out of contract in the summer, however.

On the possibility of bringing in another goalkeeper, head coach Steve Cooper said in his pre-match press conference on Monday: "We're at a stage in the window now where time is ticking and it's not been ideal with Dean and Taiwo getting injured and one or two other things. But if we feel that those players need replacing, we've looked at that,” Cooper said on the possibility of bringing in another shot-stopper.

"Wanting to do something and doing something can be two different things. Anything can happen.”
