Transfer news - live updates: Manchester United turn to Jerome Boateng, Everton agree Mina deal, Courtois set for Chelsea talks plus Liverpool, Arsenal

The Premier League's summer transfer window is nearly at an end with Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham still set to spend big before Thursday's deadline.

Liverpool have been this summer's biggest spenders with no fewer than four new arrivals so far. Goalkeeper Alisson is the headline-grabber with the Reds shelling out a world-record fee for the Brazilian. Nabil Fekir won't be joining him though after an 11th hour U-turn earlier in the window. Manchester United have a couple of new faces but Jose Mourinho wants at least one more before the window shuts. Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld is his No 1 target but could a late move for Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng or Leicester's Harry Maguire be easier to get over the line?

Champions Manchester City have their eyes on one more addition too despite their all-too-comfortable Community Shield win over Chelsea to start their season. For the Blues they need more than just one more with a number of targets in place with outgoings in the form of Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard not out the question too as the clock ticks down.

We will have all the latest news, views, rumours, gossip and done deals right here so don't touch that dial.

Live Updates

Newcastle have completed the signing of West Brom striker Salomon Rondon on a season-long loan deal, with Dwight Gayle moving in the other direction as part of the agreement.

Rondon, 28, scored seven Premier League goals last season as the Baggies dropped out of the top-flight.

He will now link up with Rafael Benitez's Newcastle, with Gayle heading to the Hawthorns on loan for the campaign in return.

Venezuela international Rondon becomes Benitez's sixth summer recruit, following on from the signings of Martin Dubravka, Kenedy, Yoshinori Muto, Fabian Schar and Ki Sung-yueng.

Announcing the news on their official website, Newcastle's statement claimed Rondon was Benitez's "number one transfer target" this summer.

"I am delighted to sign Salomon," the Newcastle boss said.

"When we were looking for options up front, we knew how important experience would be. Salomon has been in the Premier League for a while and he knows how demanding it is."

Santi Cazorla will officially be unveiled as a Villarreal player once again later this week. The midfielder is set to sign a one-year contract having trained with the club after being released by Arsenal earlier this year.

Manchester United have taken a firm stance they will not sell Paul Pogba, despite reports of his agent Mino Raiola agitating for a move.

Barcelona and Juventus are interested in the World Cup-winning star, but the English club have made it clear they will not sell.

It does remain true that there are unresolved issues between Pogba and manager Jose Mourinho from last season – especially in terms of tactics and how they interact.

This has led to Raiola looking at alternative options beyond Old Trafford, with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola famously revealing last season that he had been offered the midfielder.

Here's Miguel Delaney with the details:

Borussia Dortmund have agreed to sign Belgium international Axel Witsel from Chinese side Tianjin Quanjian.

The 29-year-old is set for a four-year contract.

"We're very happy that he has chosen Borussia Dortmund," the club's sporting director Michael Zorc said.

WOLVES NEWS
15:40
Wolves are interested in Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo, as they continue their lavish summer expenditure.

While the Argentine has been one of Jose Mourinho’s more trusted centre-halves, his injury record has seen him play less than the manager would like over two years, and the club does need to sell to facilitate moves elsewhere.

Centre-half is one of the two areas that the United boss is insistent on improving before the transfer window closes, with Toby Alderweireld still the top option, so he is thereby likely to be open to the sale of Rojo.

Newcastle winger Matt Ritchie could reportedly be in line for a return to Bournemouth.

The 28-year-old, who joined the Magpies two years ago, could form part of a deal for striker Josh King, The Sun reports.

Rafa Benitez wants King, but Newcastle want to pay less, meaning Ritchie could be used as a makeweight, the paper says.

Manchester United are still someway short of Tottenham Hotspur’s valuation of Toby Alderweireld, and are considering approaches for Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng or Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez instead.

With the transfer window closing on Thursday, Jose Mourinho is adamant the club sign him an authoritative centre-half, but the Old Trafford have encountered more frustration in their pursuit of Alderweireld.

Spurs have let it be known they would sell but only at a certain price - understood to be over £55m - and United are still no closer to meeting it.

In what has become a game of brinksmanship, United are now considering moves for two players who they have had long-standing interest in: Boateng and Gimenez.

Chelsea midfielder Willian has put an end to speculation about his future at Stamford Bridge by insisting he never wanted to leave the club.

The Brazilian winger was linked with potential moves to Manchester United and Barcelona after appearing to fall out with Antonio Conte.

Chelsea were convincingly beaten by Manchester City in the Community Shield and begin the season without Champions League football for the second time in Willian’s five years in west London, but he revealed he remains content with life at the club.

LIVERPOOL NEWS
13:30

Liverpool are facing potential defensive problems ahead of their Premier League opener against West Ham this weekend.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are Jurgen Klopp's only fit central defenders with a wave of injuries hitting the Reds backline.

Joel Matip (hip) and Ragnar Klavan (hamstring) both missed Saturday's 5-0 thrashing of Italian side Napoli due to injuries and are doubtful for Liverpool's final pre-season match against Torino on Tuesday.

"Joel, we'll have to see. Klavan, shouldn't be too serious, but if Tuesday is too early I don't know yet," Klopp told the Liverpool Echo. "Maybe we will do some magic things with the formation on Tuesday. I don't know how we will do it."

Thibaut Courtois has apparently told Chelsea he wants to leave.

The Belgian keeper has been linked with a move to Real Madrid all summer.

And he has now told Maurizio Sarri that he wants the chance to go according to ESPN.

Courtois has a year remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge.

Arsene Wenger is in contention to become manager of Japan's national team, according to the Daily Mail.

Since leaving the Gunners after 22 years, the Frenchman has been linked with Real Madrid and Paris St Germain.

However, with at least Real now ruled out, speculation over an advance by the Japan FA has emerged.

Several Chinese clubs are also said to fancy the 68-year-old, who reportedly rejected a £30million offer to go to the Far East two years ago.

Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, with a view to a bid if any rival clubs make a move, as there is now a belief by those close to the player that the Serbian international would favour a switch to Chelsea.

The 23-year-old’s fine performances in the World Cup continued a spell where he has caught the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, especially Manchester United and Real Madrid.

United had seemed set to conclude a deal before Russia 2018, only for both the complications of his Lazio contract and price to put them off.

Such issues have also so far prevented Chelsea making a move, but Milinkovic-Savic is seen as someone who could potentially be a focal point of a top side in the mould of Eden Hazard.

MANCHESTER UNITED NEWS
12:20
Jose Mourinho is now considering alternatives to Willian, with Croatia’s World Cup star Ante Rebic the latest name to attract the Manchester United manager’s attention.

The Portuguese is this summer determined to bring in the type of wide player he feels is essential to his system and, although Willian has long been his primary target from their time together at Chelsea, the difficulty of a deal has led to United looking at other targets.

It’s just that, continuing what has already been a frustrating summer, there are similar complications with other options.

Ivan Perisic was the winger he wanted to bring in last year, but United couldn’t strike a deal with Internazionale and although Mourinho would greatly like the Croatian again, his brilliant performances at the World Cup have seen his price explode.

The club are naturally reluctant to pay a fee of what would be around £80m for a player set to turn 30 this season.

Unai Emery is ready to sell Danny Welbeck, The Sun reports.

Everton could stump up £15million for the England striker, who has not yet been offered an extension to his contact, which is up in a year, the paper says.

Goalkeeper David Ospina and forward Lucas Perez could also be put on the market, according to The Sun.

Having only scored 15 Premier League goals in four seasons, Welbeck could be passed over for the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette in Emery's long-term plans.

Jose Mourinho has warned Manchester United face a "difficult season" if they do not strengthen their squad before Thursday's transfer deadline.

United's build-up to the new campaign has been dominated by Mourinho's clear frustration over transfers, which has brought his relationship with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward into the spotlight.

The only arrivals into Old Trafford this summer have been Brazilian midfielder Fred, teenage full-back Diogo Dalot and back-up goalkeeper Lee Grant, leaving Mourinho to cast envious glances at how his rivals are shaping up for the new Premier League season.
