Transfer news, rumours LIVE: Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United confusion, City chase Rodri, Arsenal eye Celtic's Tierney, Liverpool latest

Follow the latest updates live as we bring you the best of Thursday’s transfer news, rumours and done deals. Will any big transfers be completed today?

There have already been some big deals this transfer window. Manchester United wasted no time in snapping up Daniel James from Swansea City for £18m, while Eden Hazard finally completed his protracted move from Chelsea to Real Madrid, for a fee which could ultimately exceed £100m.

A number of big deals are meanwhile still in the pipeline. Both Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen have indicated that they want ‘new challenges’, while Matthijs de Ligt is a top target for just about every European super club. Where will he end up? Follow all of the latest below:

Good morning and welcome to The Independent's transfer live blog as we bring you the latest news, rumours, gossip and done deals from the summer window.

The market appears to be hotting up nicely, with Neymar's future the biggest talking point of the morning as Paris Saint-Germain consider selling the Brazilian just two years after signing him for a world record fee.

Closer to home, Manchester United appear to be keen on West Ham's defender Issa Diop, but the Hammers are playing hardball over any move, while Romelu Lukaku continues to be linked with the Old Trafford exit in a move to Italy.

But United are closing in on Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka with a £55m move in the pipeline, though conflicting reports have emerged over how far talks have progressed.

With all that and more to bring you, let's get underway.
We start this morning with Aaron Wan-Bissaka's future.

The Record reports that Manchester United have agreed a £55m fee with Crystal Palace for the talented young right-back, with personal terms now set to be discussed. The hitch is that Wan-Bissaka is currently away in Italy with the England Under-21s, which could hold up any deal from being completed until he returns to England after the European Under-21s Championship.

But it does appear to be a sign that United are progressing with their first transfer target of the summer.

The confusion lies in that the Daily Mail has countered that claim by reporting that a deal is yet to be agreed.

United have already seen two offers for Wan-Bissaka rejected, with the second reaching the £55m valuation only by a combination of cash up front and add-ons that wasn't looked upon too kindly by Palace.

However, this third bid is understood to see Palace see much more of the total fee in a lump sum, though the report adds that talks go on.

With that confusion at Old Trafford in mind, it's a good time to read Miguel Delaney's inside track on the problems that lie deep within United's recruitment policy.

Wan-Bissaka could buck the trend that has emerged in recent seasons, but even that move may not get over the line unless United allow themselves to be exploited financially once again.

The problem for United is it shows no signs of stopping.
Neymar's stay at Paris Saint-Germain looks to be on borrowed time to say the least.

As The Independent reported yesterday, PSG are having serious reservations about keeping the 27-year-old this summer, with Barcelona and Real Madrid holding interest in the Brazilian.

ESPN reports today that PSG have now decided it is best for everyone is he leaves the club, and while they will not actively look to offload him - and thus lower his asking price - they are open to offers.
The departure of Maurizio Sarri from Chelsea has thrown the future of Jorginho into major doubt, according to reports that the midfielder if on the verge of a transfer request.

The Mirror reports that the Braziian-born Italy international is ready to quit Chelsea and follow Sarri to Juventus, just one year on from joining the Blues from Napoli in a £50m deal.

Jorginho has been credited as the brains behind 'Sarriball', but that failed to stick at Stamford Bridge last season and Sarri has already moved on, with his official Juventus unveiling scheduled for later today.

Turning attentions back to Manchester United, their pursuit of West Ham defender Issa Diop has taken a turn after the club rejected the Hammers' counter of asking for Anthony Martial to be included in any deal.

Instead, United are facing a £75m asking price for the 22-year-old centre-back according to The Mirror, which would make him the joint-most expensive defender in the world alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Maurizio Sarri has said he is not daunted by replacing Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus at his introductory press conference in Turin

Sarri faces another tough challenge ahead in Turin as he attempts to build on the work of Allegri, who left at the end of the season with Juventus having been crowned Serie A champions for the eighth successive time.

The former Napoli boss, though, is ready to get to work following the efforts made to hire him.

"I have never seen so much determination on the part of a club to hire a coach. They had a great attitude which convinced me, they were very strong feelings," he said.

Sarri added: "I expect to wake up every morning studying how to win games. Winning continuously is always hard and Juventus have an obligation to always win, but with the awareness of the difficulty.

"For three years (at Napoli) I would wake up and think about how to defeat Juventus, because they were a winning team.
"I gave 110 per cent, but we still couldn't do it. It was an experience and I will now give everything for this club."

Baines not looking for a move away

Everton defender Leighton Baines admits he is still adapting to the role of back-up to Lucas Digne but he intends to continue to push the Frenchman for his place.

The veteran left-back made just eight appearances last season as the £18million signing from Barcelona quickly established himself as Marco Silva's first choice.

It has not stopped Baines signing a new one-year contract and he has pledged to keep Digne honest by providing him with competition - even if watching from the bench after 12 seasons as a regular is an oddity for the 34-year-old.

"It is a new challenge for me in terms of the fact I have not played as much football as I have been used to," he said.

"But I have also not lost sight of the fact I have been very lucky to play the amount of football I have during my career. I appreciate what I have had and will keep working for whatever I can get.

"I take my responsibilities seriously. And whether I am in the starting XI or not, I am going to do the same things day in, day out, in case I am called upon.

"But working under the manager and in those new circumstances has been good. It is never completely smooth sailing and you never expect it to be in a job like this."

Jorginho not joining Juventus

Chelsea have no intention of selling Jorginho this summer, according to The Evening Standard.

The Italian midfielder has been linked with a move to Juventus after Maurizio Sarri departed London for Turin, with the former playing under the latter for Napoli at three years before they both joined Chelsea last summer.

Jorginho endured something of an erratic 2018/19 campaign, but the Standard claim the 27-year-old is an integral part of the club’s future plans.

Sarri latest

Sarri believes he will emerge stronger from his experiences in England and under the media spotlight.

He said: "The world of the English media is well known to everybody, there are great newspapers and also some tabloids. This is something which certainly strengthens you a lot.

"What I was a little disappointed with was the fact that here in Italy, what the tabloids wrote was mainly reported compared to the articles of the other newspapers.

"But of course then all of the criticism and the attacks, the pressure that you have to undergo will somehow strengthen you."

Auba shoots down United talk

Pierre-Emerick Auabmeyang has seemingly shot down speculation he could move to Manchester United this summer by reaffirming his love for current club Arsenal.

“I loved my time at Dortmund but when Arsenal called, I was really excited for the challenge,” he told the Mirror.

“I’d always admired Arsenal because of the big history and players like Thierry Henry. He was always an example for strikers and because I am also fast and score goals, I always looked up to him.

“He’s the reason why I took the No 14 shirt. To be honest, when I arrived I actually wanted No.7, but Micki [Henryk Mkhitaryan] had already taken it.

“So I thought, ‘Why not follow in the footsteps of a legend?’ I’m just really proud to wear the 14 shirt and I hope to honour it.”

Rangers to wipe off debt

Dave King has thanked the Rangers shareholders for backing a move to wipe out £14million of debt.

A general meeting was held at Ibrox on Wednesday, with shareholders asked to waive rules that would have forced the chairman to make a bid for the remainder of the club's shares.

And the motion was backed by 81.9 per cent of the votes, meaning King and his 'Three Bears' allies - Douglas Park, George Letham and George Taylor - can press ahead with plans to recoup the loans they have given the club in recent years in the form of shares at 20p a piece.

King and his allies will now further strengthen their grip on the club, controlling a stake worth around 54 per cent of the club.

And the South Africa-based businessman thanked shareholders for their support.

King told the club website: "This is an important marker in the recapitalisation of the company and significantly improves its balance sheet, enabling the conversion of over £14m of debt into shares."

King has previously been forced to fight off attempts by the Takeover Panel requiring him to make an offer to buy out the rest of the club's shareholders.

That came after the panel ruled the Castlemilk-born tycoon had worked "in concert" with the Three Bears when they snatched up a stake worth more than 30 per cent of the Light Blues in order to oust the former Mike Ashley-backed regime at Ibrox.

King was spared an £8m bill when the majority of shareholders decided not to take up the offer.

Mikael Lustig has confirmed that he will this summer leave Celtic after almost eight years with the club.

The 32-year-old Swedish defender took to Instagram to write a goodbye to the club he joined from Rosenborg BK in 2012: "I had no idea how much this club and everything that comes with it would mean to me when I signed 7.5 years ago.

"It’s time for me and my family to move on, start a new chapter in life. To make a post on Instagram isn’t enough to express my feelings and thoughts about the situation. I wish I would’ve had the chance to get a proper good bye.

"I just want to say thank you to everyone I’ve had the honour to meet and work with at Celtic, all the players and staff. The memories will stay with me forever. Thank you to all of you that made Glasgow feel like home for me and my family for so many years.

"I will never forget your support. Hopefully I’ll see you all soon. I’ll definitely be back for the 10 in a row party!"

Reports in Italy suggest that Manchester United are primed to turn to Napoli full-back Elseid Hysaj as an alternative to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United have been courting Wan-Bissaka all summer, but have been told by Crystal Palace that they will have to spend upwards of £50m to land their man.

And now Sky Sports Italia are claiming United are interested in signing Hysaj for £22.2m as a cheaper alternative.

New Juventus head coach Maurizio Sarri believes his season under the media spotlight at Chelsea has made him stronger for the challenges ahead in Turin.

The Blues agreed a compensation package with the Serie A champions - understood to be worth in excess of £5million - for Sarri, who had signed a three-year deal with Chelsea when appointed last summer to replace Antonio Conte.

Despite some negative reaction from sections of the Chelsea fan base who were not convinced by his style of play, Sarri guided Chelsea to the Carabao Cup final, where they were beaten on penalties by Manchester City, and then finished third in the Premier League.

The Italian, though, ended the campaign on a high, clinching victory over Arsenal in the Europa League final in Baku.

Former Napoli boss Sarri was given a tour around the Turin club and Juve's training complex after jetting in on Wednesday.

Sporting a club suit and tie to address the Italian media for the first time as Juve manager on Thursday morning, Sarri, 60, was asked to reflect on what was a testing spell at Stamford Bridge.

"The world of the English media is well known to everybody, there are great newspapers and also some tabloids. This is something which certainly strengthens you a lot," he said.

"What I was a little disappointed with was the fact that here in Italy, what the tabloids wrote was mainly reported compared to the articles of the other newspapers.

"But of course then all of the criticism and the attacks, the pressure that you have to undergo will somehow strengthen you."

Manchester City have agreed a three-year contract extension with Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The 22-year-old has agreed his new deal just a day after City announced Kyle Walker agreed a similar contract extension.

Zinchenko came close to leave Manchester City last summer, with the club agreeing to a £16m transfer with Wolves, only for the Ukraine international to veto the deal at the last moment.

He instead vowed to prove his worth at the Etihad and became a crucial player as City defender their Premier League crown, playing 29 matches in all competitions.

Llorente swaps Real for Atleti

Marcos Llorente will join Atletico Madrid from Real Madrid from it has been announced.

The midfielder is set to replace Rodri, strongly linked to Manchester City.

And Atleti have announced the player will pen terms on a five-year deal, all that is missing is the medical checks.

Ajax have extended the contract of manager Erik ten Hag after he guided the Amsterdam club to its best season in years.

Ajax announced on Thursday that Ten Hag's deal has been extended two years until June 2022. Financial details were not released.

Ten Hag joined Ajax in January 2018 and last season led a talent-packed young team to the Dutch league and cup double and also the semifinals of the Champions League.

Neil Lennon has revealed it was Mikael Lustig's decision to call time on his Celtic career

The Hoops boss led the tributes to the Swede after the 32-year-old announced he was moving on after seven-and-a-half years at Parkhead.

The right-back racked up more than 275 games in the Hoops as he amassed eight league titles, four Scottish Cup medals and four League Cup wins.

But there were signs of frustration from Lustig last week as he took a swipe at Celtic's handling of his situation as the clock ticked down on his contract.

Speaking while away on international duty, the former Rosenborg defender said: "I am proud of how I have handled the situation and those closest to me, the players and the leaders at Celtic know what has happened. It could have been handled differently, in terms of what has been said and what happened."

But Hoops boss Lennon - who signed Lustig during his first stint in charge at Celtic Park - insists it was the player who decided to depart.

He told the club's website: "I was delighted to bring Mika to Celtic and he has been phenomenal for me and the club.

"Mika has chosen to move elsewhere, but that is absolutely his right, these things happen, but it will not in any way take away from what he has achieved at Celtic.

"I wish Mika nothing but success for the future, he has been a brilliant servant to the club and has made a massive contribution to everything we have achieved across so many years.

"It has been a privilege to work with Mika. A top international player, he always gave everything for the team, he gave his heart and soul to every performance and I loved having him on my side.

"I am sure he will go on and continue to enjoy a really successful career, and myself and everyone at the club wish Mika and his family nothing but success for the future."

Arsenal are meanwhile set to push on with their first signing of the summer with a bid for Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser set to be lodged. A new centre-back is high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s priority list at United with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester’s Harry Maguire both options. Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka is another on the Norwegian’s radar.

It won’t just be incomings at Old Trafford, however, with Pogba a high-profile target for Real Madrid and Alexis Sanchez on his way out with Inter Milan and Juventus fighting it out for his signature – if he drops his wage demands. And Liverpool could be active too as they look to go one better after failing to win the Premier League title by just a single point.
