Arsenal‘s £40m bid for Wilfried Zaha was swiftly knocked back by Crystal Palace, however, the Gunners are still prioritising the winger over Malcom, who has reportedly been offered to the club by Barcelona. Meanwhile, another Barca star could be on his way to the Premier League after the odds on Ousmane Dembele making a switch to Liverpool overnight. Elsewhere, Juventus have lodged an opening £58.3m offer for Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt. Follow all the day’s transfer news live below:
Good morning and thank you for joining us at The Independent.
We'll be bringing you all the latest transfer stories throughout the day, but first, let's quickly recap the headline stories of yesterday, beginning with Manchester City breaking their transfer record to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri for £62.8m.
Here's why the 23-year-old can be such an important figure for Pep Guardiola over the coming seasons:
The odds on Ousmane Dembele making a surprise switch to Anfield plummeted overnight.
Philippe Coutinho's agent revealed the Brazilian will stay at Barcelona next season, however, despite being highly rated by those at the club, Dembele's consistent disciplinary issues have become a concern.
Any deal for the 22-year-old Frenchman would in excess of £100m and may make way for Neymar returning to the Spanish champions.
Arsenal are still hoping to sign Wilfried Zaha this summer, despite being offered Barcelona winger Malcom.
The Brazilian was hotly pursued by Arsenal, Tottenham and Roma before eventually leaving Bordeaux for Barcelona last year.
However, he has struggled for game time at the Camp Nou, making 24 appearances in all competitions last season, with the 22-year-old thought to be available for a fee in the region of £35-40m.
Manchester United are considering whether to make a second approach for Leicester defender Harry Maguire after their initial £70m was knocked back.
Manchester City are also still interested in the England international, with the Foxes seemingly resigned to losing Maguire this summer.
Leicester have expressed an interest in Brighton's Lewis Dunk as a replacement, but have baulked at the Seagulls' £40m asking price, according to The Sun.
Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez also completed a £30m switch to the King Power yesterday.
Manchester United are prepared to hand goalkeeper David De Gea an ultimatum after offering the Spaniard a £350,000-per-week contract.
United triggered a one-year extension in De Gea's contract, but the goalkeeper remains interested in a move to Juventus or PSG and is reluctant to commit his future.
Ed Woodward's offer is now considered to be a take it or leave it deal.
Barcelona have set their asking price at £60m for World Cup-winning centre-back Samuel Umtiti.
The defender has lost his place in the Spanish champions' starting eleven to compatriot Clement Lenglet and has attracted widespread interest from Europe's top clubs.
Both Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in the player.
Tottenham's progress in the transfer market isn't looking like ending any time soon.
Mauricio Pochettino's side are reportedly close to making their third signing of the window, with Dani Olmo, a Spain U21 international, close to agreeing a move to North London, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Arsenal may look to Real Madrid's veteran left-back Marcelo if they fail to finalise a deal for Celtic's Kieran Tierney.
The Gunners have seen £17.5m their bid for the Scottish full-back knocked back, while Tierney has also attracted interest from Napoli. Arsenal still confident they will win the race for Tierney's signature if they meet Celtic's asking price.
Manchester United have targeted Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez as a potential replacement for wantaway Frenchman Paul Pogba, according to the Daily Express.
Saul, 24, has a €150m release clause in his nine-year contract which he signed in 2017, keeping him at the Wanda Metropolitano until 2026
United are also keeping tabs on highly sought after Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, with his agent flying to the UK in the coming days to hold talks with a host of Premier League clubs.
Transfer confirmed: PSG have confirmed the signing of Ander Herrera on a free transfer after his Manchester United contract expired last month.
Herrera has signed a five-year deal with the French champions and becomes their second signing of the season following the acquisition of Sevilla's Pablo Sarabia.
Herrera leaves Old Trafford having played 189 games and scoring 20 goals. He also won the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup during his time with the club.
West Ham are set to accept a £22.4m offer from Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG for Austrian forward Marko Arnautovic.
Arnautovic has made it clear for the second time in as many transfer windows that he would like to leave east London after having his head turned by a lucrative offer from China.
Originally, the Hammers were set on forcing Arnautovic to honour his contract but now his disruptive presence on the rest of the squad has meant the club have decided to sanction a move at a cut-price.
Transfer confirmed: Phil Jagielka has made an emotional return to Sheffield United on a free transfer after his Everton contract expired.
Jagielka, 36, left Sheffield United to join Everton for £4m move in 2007 and has now signed a one-year deal at his boyhood club.
The former England centre-half had been Everton's captain since 2013 but fell out of favour under Marco Silva last season, making just seven Premier League appearances.
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder said: "He's a really good footballer and a great character to have around in our first season back in the Premier League. His desire to come here was obvious and I'm absolutely delighted he's back home."
Belgian newspaper HLN reports that Anderlecht are in talks to sign free agent Samir Nasri after his short-term contract with West Ham expired.
Anderlecht, who are now managed by Vincent Kompany, have held discussions with the former French international. Kompany and Nasri both played together at Manchester City.
The Daily Echo reports that Southampton will only consider allowing midfielder Mario Lemina leave on a permanent deal rather than a season-long loan.
Lemina struggled with injuries last season and reports in Italy have suggested that Atalanta are interested in the Gabon international.
Southampton would prefer to receive a transfer fee for the 25-year-old to balance their summer spending, having signed Moussa Djenepo, Che Adams and Danny Ings for nearly £50m.
