Transfer news LIVE: Man United to complete Bruno Fernandes deal and enquire about Barcelona's Ivan Rakitic plus latest rumours and gossip

Follow the latest live updates from transfer deadline day as the January window builds towards a busy crescendo, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and a host of other clubs all expected to do late business in their final chance to improve their squads. Manchester United set the tone on Thursday by completing the big-money deal for midfielder Bruno Fernandes in a deal that could reach as much as £67.8m, but that could just be the start of a top-six flurry ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline.

United are understood to have seen a bid for Bournemouth striker Josh King rejected this morning, but could yet return for the Norway international given Marcus Rashford's injury-enforced spell on the sidelines. Arsenal are expected to make their second signing of the month after Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed that right-back Cedric Soares is on his way out of the club, with the Gunners looking to complete a loan move until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal. It is unlikely to be the only business in London today, with Chelsea determined to land a new striker that could also see one of their own make a switch to fierce rivals Spurs. Napoli’s Dries Merthens is being strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and if Frank Lampard can bring in the Belgian, the expectation is that out-of-favour Olivier Giroud will be on his way out of the club. However, he may not have to move far as the French striker is keen on a move to Tottenham, who need injury cover for Harry Kane, while Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has also confirmed they have had an offer for the former Arsenal man rejected. Spurs are also interested in Willian Jose of Real Sociedad, who could yet head to the Premier League.

United have ruled out a move for Willian Jose, meaning the Brazilian will not be heading to Old Trafford in their desperate search for a striker, but there are expected to be plenty of moves elsewhere. One of the fiercest transfer battles is set to be over Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen, who despite having a deal in place to join Crystal Palace yesterday now appears to be on his way to West Ham for a medical. The one certainty appears to be that neither Liverpool nor Manchester City will be active in any capacity, but then again on deadline day you never know what’s around the corner. Follow the live updates below.

Done deal!

Serie A side Genoa have signed French defender Adama Soumaoro on loan from Lille until the end of the season.

Done deal!

RB Leipzig have signed Angelino from Manchester City on loan for the rest of the season. The full-back had a positive brief stint with PSV before returning to City, and now goes to Bundesliga in hope of getting regular game time.

Done deal!

Clinton Mola has officially joined Stuttgart. The teenager leaves Chelsea and signs a contract until June 2024.

Sporting director Sven Mislintat said: “We’re very happy and proud that Clinton, with his potential and quality, has decided to sign for us. For a current second-division side to win the race for such a hot property in the transfer market mustn’t be taken for granted. We believe Clinton will settle quickly in Germany and will help us meet our short- and medium-term objectives.”

Here's what we're waiting for as we hit 5pm:

  • West Ham and Jarrod Bowen still discussing personal terms
  • Jordon Ibe to Palace has gone extremely quiet
  • Antonee Robinson to AC Milan may be in danger of falling through
  • Angelino to RB Leipzig was close, but no confirmation yet and the Bundesliga window is officially shut
  • Emre Can similarly on verge of a move to Borussia Dortmund, but no confirmation
  • Man United's striker search was last seen somewhere north of Odion Ighalo
  • Nothing incoming likely at Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Man City or Arsenal

Reports out of Italy suggest that Wigan have tried to change the terms of the deal for Robinson and, as a result, it seems in serious doubt. He was in Milan HQ for his medical, but has now departed.

Complications in Milan. Wigan's Antonee Robinson has been having his medical there, but Diego Laxalt has now been recalled from his loan at Torino amid suggestions that there may be an issue over Robinson's move.

The Mail's Craig Hope says Celtic are interested in Newcastle winger Christian Atsu, but wages may be an issue.

Looks like King to United is 100 per cent no-go...and the Athletic's David Ornstein says the Red Devils are now considering Odion Ighalo as a loan target instead.

Germany's transfer window is set to close in 30 minutes and there are two deals in particular we've been waiting for.

Emre Can, linked with Arsenal and Spurs, has been at Dortmund having a medical ahead of a move from Juventus.

And Angelino is close to a move to RB Leipzig from Manchester City. Not long to get them both sorted...

A little more insight into Spurs' big January deal - it seems that Bergwijn gave up his fee due for the move to ensure he could seal the transfer. Still, PSV weren't overly happy with his conduct.

Two outgoing youngsters at Chelsea. Clinton Mola has gone to Stuttgart, while Jacob Maddox seems set for Southampton on a loan until the end of the season, when he'll join permanently.

Southampton look set to offload Maya Yoshida, with Fabrizio Romano claiming an agreement with Sampdoria is close. The centre-back hasn't played much this term and is out of contract in the summer.

News out of nowhere and they'll have to hurry to get it done - RB Leipzig are in "advanced" talks with Manchester City to sign Angelino on loan.

Germany's window shuts at 5pm, so less than 90 minutes to get that deal sorted.

Done deal

Hull have their man after a couple of exits today. Marcus Maddison joins until May.

BBC reporter Kris Temple says that Bournemouth have confirmed Josh King is staying, with Man United dropping their pursuit of the forward.

Reports from several outlets are suggesting the Jarrod Bowens to West Ham deal is hanging in the balance over personal terms. Requests of a £60k-a-week contract have not been well-received by the Hammers, it seems.

Departure confirmed

Newcastle might be short of bodies, but apparently not so short that they can't do without Ki Sung-yueng. The midfielder has been granted a free transfer and is thus able to join a club after today if necessary.

Remember Keisuke Honda? He of the tremendous free-kicks (once in a while) and frequent rumours of joining Man United (for a bit)?

Well, he's been on a bit of a world tour of late, with Pachuca in Mexico and Melbourne Victory in Australia - and even a part-time role as manager of Cambodia. Now he has signed for Botafogo in Brazil.

Sheffield United update: Panagiotis Retsos has passed his medical with the club and should shortly be confirmed as the second signing of the day.

And a busy few hours ahead for Brighton: Serhou Guirassy is still on the cards, with a loan to buy deal. Tariq Lamptey has been having a medical for his move from Chelsea. And Dutch forward Jurgen Locadia may be heading to MLS outfit Cincinatti.

Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed the signing of Stefan Ilsanker from RB Leipzig, which fills the void left by Joveljic's earlier move to Anderlecht.

Please allow a moment for updates to load.

Krzysztof Piatek has snubbed the Premier League for the Bundesliga, with Hertha Berlin sealing the forward’s signature ahead of Spurs and Chelsea due to their offer being for the permanent transfer, rather than a loan.  The Polish forward’s struggles this season saw the Rossoneri snap up Zlatan Ibrahimovic to drive their second half of the season.
