Standard Sport understands Manchester United are targeting Tottenham star Christian Eriksen amid doubts over Paul Pogba.
United are still not certain that Real Madrid target Pogba will be at the club for the start of the season, though the Red Devils must hurry to beat Thursday's transfer deadline if they are to seal a deal with Spurs for Eriksen.
Elsewhere, Arsenal have made enquiries into signing 20-year-old starlet Dayot Upamecano. The Gunners are also interested in Italy international Daniele Rugani, while BBC Sport reports that Eddie Nketiah is set to leave the club on loan.
Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney is set to become a player/coach at Derby County, with the former Man Utd and England captain's contract starting in January 2020.

England
Transfer deadline day is on Thursday, August 8, 2019, and the window slams shut at 5pm BST.
France
The Ligue 1 window opens on June 16 and closes on September 2.
Spain
The Liga window opens on July 1 and closes on September 2.
Germany
The Bundesliga window opens on July 1 and closes on September 2.
Italy
The Serie A window opens on July 1 and closes on August 23.
