Welcome

Good morning and welcome to The Independent's live coverage of Sunday's transfer news.

The Sunday papers have once again delivered some cracking transfer lines and we will be bringing you some of the best ones.

Right, let's start things with the huge news that Philippe Coutinho has rejected the chance to join Manchester United this summer.

Barcelona are looking to offload the Brazilian forward after bringing Antoine Griezmann to the club.

United have long been interested in Coutinho, while Liverpool and PSG are also closely monitoring his situation, but the 27-year-old does not want to move to Old Trafford because of his loyalties to Liverpool, reports The Express.

The Catalan club are also said to be interested in bringing Neymar back to the Nou Camp, meaning they are keen to sell Coutinho to raise the huge funds needed to complete such a titanic transfer.

However Countinho's agent, has told Sky Sports that he believes the Brazilian is not for sale.

"The information from Barcelona is rather mixed," said Kia Joorabchian.

"We had a meeting last week with the president [Josep] Bartomeu and other directors, and they told us he was absolutely not for sale, that they have never spoken about the boy leaving, that they had never offered him to any club.

"Although there is a guy that works for them called Andre Cury, who apparently has been touting him about - but the president has told us he is categorically not for sale."

It was widely reported that Christian Eriksen will leave Tottenham this summer and Real Madrid appear to be the team most interested in signing him, although that may all change.

Reports in The Guardian suggest that Europe's top sides do not have the resources and stature to tempt Eriksen to leave Spurs. Mauricio Pochettino is very fond of the Danish playmaker and is on the verge of convincing him to stay.

Eriksen said "it might be time for something new" just a few days after Tottenham's defeat in the Champions League final.

Earlier in the year, The Independent revealed that Real Madrid had made the initial steps to prise Eriksen from Spurs and began to prepare an offer.

Eriksen is under contract at Tottenham until 2020, meaning Spurs risk losing him on a free next summer.

Harry Maguire has told Leicester he wants to move to Manchester United after weeks of staying quiet.

Maguire told Brendan Rodgers and the rest of the Leicester squad of his intentions in an attempt to prompt negotiations, according to The Mail.

United were put off by by the £75m price tag Leicester named, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer calling for calm.

Liverpool have joined the race to sign Russian wonderkid Fedor Chalov.

Jurgen Klopp's side face competitions from Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United for the £20m CSKA Moscow forward.

The Mirror say that Chalov's 27 goals in 65 league games for CSKA makes him a Liverpool target, who are looking to replace Daniel Sturridge.

Arsenal are set to join Tottenham and Juventus in the race for Roma starlet Nicolo Zaniolo following his impressive season with the Serie A side.

Reports from the Gazzetta dello Sport suggest Spurs and Arsenal will battle for his signature, despite the 20-year-old midfielder happy to stay at the club.

Meanwhile, Arsenal were set to land the Saint-Etienne central defender for £27m, but Tottenham have revived their interested in him and look to crash the deal.

A deal to bring the 18-year-old to the Emirates would suit Arsenals budget as the agreement with the French club would see the transfer fee paid in installments and he would return to play on loan next season.

Neymar has fuelled talk of a return to Barcelona by revealing his best football memory was with Barcelona in the 6-1 win against current club Paris Saint-Germain.

“When we won against PSG with Barcelona it was completely… we all went crazy afterwards,” Neymar admitted.

The Brazilian has so far failed to succeed with PSG after injuries throughout his two seasons in the French capital have hurt their chances of success in the Champions League.

Neymar’s failure to turn up for pre-season has angered the Ligue 1 champions however, with the club revealing they are taking disciplinary action and now thought to be prepared to cash in on the most expensive player in the world.

Arsenal have made a £25m bid for Kieran Tierney as they attempt to persuade him to move to north London instead of Napoli.

Celic rejected Arsenal's initial £15m bid for the left-back, but The Mail reports that they Gunners have returned with an improved bid.

The Italian side remain interested in the 22-year-old, with Carlo Ancelotti said to be a big fan of his, but they are yet to submit an official bid.

'Bombshell in sight! James wants to play for Atletico!'

Spanish newspaper Marca have gone big on their claim that James Rodriguez wants to play for Atletico Madrid next season.

The Colombian midfielder is on the hunt for a new club after returning to Real Madrid following a two-year loan spell with Bayern Munich.

James has been linked with a move to Napoli, Manchester United and a host of top European clubs, but it seems he has chosen Atletico Madrid as his next club.

The Spanish paper claims that James wants to continue living in Madrid and Los Rojiblancos are keen to bring him to the Wanda Metropolitano.

James is not part of Zinedine Zidane's plans for next season and Real Madrid are willing to let him leave to their city rivals.

Idrissa Gana Gueye is aware of transfer speculation linking him with a summer move to PSG, not that he is taking much interest in it.

He told Sans Limite SN: “I am focused on my competition,” he told them when asked about PSG’s interest.

“I did not read L’Equipe but they told me about it. I am fully focused on my competition. We’ll have time to talk about it again if it’s still there.

“I can not talk about it here. Once again, I am focused on my competition.”

PSG are keen to sign the Everton midfielder, but the Toffees are holding firm on their £30m price tag.

Gueye is playing for Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations and faces Tunisia in the semi-final this evening

Bayern are set to raise their bid for Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The Germans made several offers last January, but were rebuffed by the Blues.

The England international has ruptured his Achilles, but Bayern look set to bid once more with just a year left on his contract.

Fabiam Delph has been left out of Manchester City's squad for their pre-season tour ahead of a £8.5m move to Everton.

The England midfielder and makeshift left-back is staying at home to finalise personal terms ahead of a move to Goodison Park.

Liverpool are yet to receive an approach from Real Madrid for Sadio Mane despite Senegal FA chief suggesting that Zinedine Zidane's side have made an offer for the forward.

Seck told The Mirror: “Everybody in the world knows that Mane is in the top ten best footballers in the world and he has achieved significant success at Liverpool in the past season.

“He alongside Mo Salah and Firmino are phenomenal. But this is football and he won the Champions League last season and he has the chance to go to Madrid. For me I think it’s the best club in the world, even if I am a Barcelona fan I still think Real is the best and Mane should be thinking of that offer seriously.

“The career of a footballer is very short and sometimes you don’t get the chance a lot so if it’s there, and I think Zidane likes him, why not?

“He played in Southampton and when the chance came he took it and went to Liverpool and he has held the challenge well in England. I think he will do well with another challenge in another country.”

Mane is playing for Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations and faces Tunisia in the semi-final this evening.

Manchester United have agreed a fee with Leicester to sign Harry Maguire for a world-record £80m fee.

The Sun is reporting that the England international will have a medical with the Old Trafford club after Leicester and United agreed on a transfer fee.

The report adds that United will pay Leicester £60m up front for Maguire, with an extra £20m in add-ons, which sees him eclipse Virgil van Dijk as the world's most expensive defender.
Fulham have completed the signing of Martell Taylor-Crossdale from Chelsea.

The 19-year-old signs a two-year deal at the Cottage.

He said: "I'm ready to go here and show everyone what I can do. I felt coming here presented the perfect opportunity to push into the first team. I had a look at the pathway into the first team and I'm hopeful I can breakthrough to impress the manager.

"I'm a player who likes to run in-behind. I'm good in the box and know where the net is, I hope I can score lots of goals for Fulham."

Antoine Griezmann is “very disappointed” by Atletico Madrid’s “attitude” as his former club dispute the transfer fee paid by Barcelona for the French forward.

Griezmann completed a £107m (€120m) move to the Nou Camp this week, signing a five-year deal.

Yet Atletico are adamant they are due another £72m (€80m), which would take the price up to £179m (€200m), due to Barcelona’s alleged premature negotiations before the release clause dropped on July 1.
