Transfer news LIVE! Arsenal want Chelsea target Jacquet; Semenyo race twist; Man Utd join chase

Transfer targets: Leon Goretzka, Jude Bellingham, Antoine Semenyo - (London Standard)

Transfer news LIVE!

The January window opens in a matter of days, and the Premier League’s biggest sides are already working hard on huge deals to boost their squads. The biggest early deal is set to be Antoine Semenyo’s move to Manchester City, but Liverpool are set to rival them for the £65million star. Arsenal are back on the market for another defender, amid injury concerns over Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori, with AC Milan’s Davide Bartesaghi and Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet linked.

Jacquet also has admirers at Chelsea, and would cost a large fee. Chelsea continue to keep tabs on Saint-Etienne forward Djylian N’Guessan, and have expressed interest in James McAtee, who has struggled to make the desired impact at Nottingham Forest. Enzo Maresca worked with him while at City. Chelsea have also been linked with a stunning move for Jude Bellingham, and are said to be open to letting Enzo Fernandez move in the opposite direction.

Manchester United are said to be interested in a cut-price move for James Garner - who has six months left on his Everton contract - to bolster their midfield. Tottenham are expected to be busy this month, and amid new contract talks for Micky van de Ven, a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has been suggested. Flick wants Barca to seal Rashford deal

20:15 , Alex Dakers

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has made clear his desire for the Catalan giants to make Marcus Rashford’s stay a permanent one.

The England international is currently on loan at Barca from Manchester United and has impressed the club’s manager as well as their fans.

Rashford, 28, has scored twice and provided eight assists in the Spanish top flight, plus another seven goal involvements (four goals, three assists) in the Champions League despite facing plenty of competition for game time in Barca’s star-studded squad.

Spanish outlet SPORT reports that Flick wants the La Liga leaders to ensure the versatile forward remains at the Spotify Camp Nou past next summer.

Wolves eyeing Canada international Sigur

20:00 , Alex Dakers

Wolves could strengthen their midfield ranks with the addition of Hajduk Split’s Niko Sigur.

The winless Old Gold are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table and have been leaking goals, so perhaps a pair of fresh legs might help to tighten things up.

If Fabrizio Romano is to be believed, the higher-ups at Molineux are interested in signing 22-year-old Canada international Sigur - who is also capable of playing at right-back - in January to do just that.

Ugarte could leave Man United on loan - reports

19:45 , Alex Dakers

Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte could be the subject of a loan with option to buy offer from Galatasaray, according to reports.

That comes from Fotomac, who say the Turkish giants are exploring a temporary move for the Uruguayan with a permanent deal for a fee of around €25million potentially included.

Ugarte has largely failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford, with Lyon and Napoli also said to be among the clubs monitoring his situation.

The 24-year-old started alongside veteran midfielder Casemiro in the Boxing Day win over Newcastle, but it took an injury to Bruno Fernandes in the previous game for him to do so as he continues to struggle for game time under Ruben Amorim.

It comes as central midfield remains a key area in which the Red Devils are looking to improve in over the next month.

Semenyo latest: Have Arsenal missed a trick?

19:30 , Alex Dakers

Arsenal would have been the “preferred destination” for Antoine Semenyo if the Gunners had shown any real interest in signing him, it has been reported.

The sought after Ghanaian is tipped to leave Bournemouth in the winter transfer window, with Man City widely believed to be leading Liverpool in the race for his signature.

Semenyo, 25, is said to have already rejected advances from Chelsea and Tottenham but The Athletic reports that he may have pushed for a move to the Emirates had the Premier League leaders shown more of a “concrete interest”.

Thoughts, Arsenal fans?

That comes as Ben Jacobs reports that Semenyo’s move to City could be finalised within the next 48 hours, with personal terms already agreed verbally:

Liverpool tipped to make audacious swoop for Arsenal defender

19:15 , Alex Dakers

Liverpool have been told to launch a bold move for Arsenal star defender Jurrien Timber.

The Dutchman has established himself as a key part of Mikel Arteta's fragile defence, playing at both right-back and centre-back, to help the Gunners' cement themselves as Premier League title favourites.

Liverpool, the reigning champions, have struggled for consistency all season, especially at the back having already shipped 26 goals in 18 games. Reds skipper Virgil van Dijk appears a shadow of his former self, while Trent Alexander-Arnold’s absence on the right flank continues to be keenly felt with Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong both struggling to stay fit.

It means Timber, who missed Arsenal's 2-1 win over Brighton with an injury, has been highlighted as an answer to Arne Slot’s defensive woes.

"It's very important,” Nuno said of the January transfer window.

"There are positions that we need to have more options.

“Now it's time to focus on Brighton, and after the club is working, the transfer window will open, and we'll make decisions.”

Bournemouth join Johnson race

18:45 , Oli Gent

Sky Sports report that the Cherries hold an interest in Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson.

The Welsh winger has been linked with a move away from Spurs next month, and Crystal Palace are though to be interested.

However, it seems as though the Dorset outfit could rival the Eagles for his signature, especially with Antoine Semenyo’s expected exit.

Spurs boss Thomas Frank insisted after his side’s 1-0 victory over Palace on Sunday that Johnson was an important part of his plans, but the winger has started just six games during his tenure.

Man Utd make first January signing

18:33 , Oli Gent

Well, Manchester United’s women’s team.

They have landed Lea Schuller from Bayern Munich, who will join them on January 1, having notched over a century of goals for die Bayern.

“From the first conversations that I had with Marc [Skinner] and the club, the ambitions of everyone here were very clear,” Schuller told the club website.

"I still have so much that I want to achieve in my career, and I know that Manchester United is the perfect club to join.

“I feel that the team’s style of football will really suit my game, I hope my qualities and experience can help us to achieve our aims both in England and in the Champions League.”

Tottenham will be active in transfer market

14:35 , Alex Young

Tottenham will be active in the transfer market, manager Thomas Frank has reiterated.

"Of course the window will open and we will be in the market and see if there's anything we can do," he said following Sunday's 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.

"But it needs to be something where we think it can clearly improve the team, if not I'd rather want to wait.

"But we will be out there."

Arsenal transfer guide: possible outs

14:10 , Alex Young

Arsenal reporter Matt Verri reports...

Gabriel Jesus was one player who it appeared could realistically leave in January, but that now appears unlikely.

The Brazilian has returned from injury with several sharp cameos and Arteta had dismissed the possibility of him leaving next month.

There has been some talk of Ethan Nwaneri leaving on loan, with the 18-year-old having only started three matches this season.

Arsenal have been careful with his development up to this point and a permanent exit will not be sanctioned, but a loan until the end of the campaign could emerge as a possibility.

Nuno preparing for 'very important' transfer window with West Ham

13:38 , Alex Young

West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo says West Ham are preparing for a "very important" January transfer window.

The Hammers have endured a tough season so far, which leaves them in the relegation zone and five points from safety ahead of the halfway point of the season.

Asked by reporters about the transfer window, Nuno said: "It's very important. We need to rebalance our squad."

He added: "There are positions that we need to have more options ... the club is working, the transfer window will open, and we'll make decisions.”

Cristiano Ronaldo hints at return to Europe

13:00 , Alex Young

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted at a return to Europe as been looks to score 1,000 goals by the end of his career.

Ronaldo moved onto 956 career goals by scoring twice for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League on Saturday.

His tally includes men's international record of 143 goals for Portugal, which Ronaldo is set to lead into next year's World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

By the time the World Cup begins, Ronaldo — a five-time world player of the year — will be aged 41.

"I will reach that number for sure, if no injuries," Ronaldo said on Sunday at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, where he was named the best player in the Middle East.

"I am still very motivated to carry on. It doesn't matter (where) I play — Middle East, in Europe — I always enjoy to play football, to win trophies, to score goals and I want to carry on.

"You know what my goal is: I want to win more trophies and I want to reach the number that you will all know."

Matt Verri reports...

Central midfield is an obvious area that requires strengthening.

Casemiro's future beyond the end of the season looks uncertain and Kobbie Mainoo has struggled for minutes. With Fernandes now injured too, United are short of quality and depth.

Amorim's 3-4-3 system can leave United short in the middle of the park at times and a player with the legs to get around the pitch is crucial.

A player to control things on the ball would also help bring some calm to what can be a frantic United side.

Mikel Arteta confirms Arsenal will be 'actively looking' in transfer window

12:12 , Alex Young

Mikel Arteta has insisted Arsenal must be "actively looking" at the January transfer window.

The Gunners spent more than £250million in the summer, bringing in the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera giving them impressive defensive options.

However, Ben White and Mosquera are currently on the sidelines, Gabriel is only just returning, and Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori both missed the win over Brighton on Saturday.

That forced Arteta to turn to Declan Rice at right-back, raising questions over whether the club could look to the transfer market to bolster their squad further.

"Depending on the availability of certain players," Arteta said.

"So the window is there. I mean, we're Arsenal and we have to be looking at it: 'OK, what do we need?’

"And we have to be actively looking. Then can we do it or not, that's a different story, but our job is to be always very prepared because something can happen. So hopefully very positive."

Foreign clubs such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Inter Milan are also monitoring the situation. Guehi can discuss a Bosman move abroad from January 1.

Amorim recently stated that Mainoo “will have the opportunity he always has,” praising his versatility across multiple positions

“He can play as a defensive midfielder, in a three-man setup, or even in the role Mason Mount played in our last match,” he added.

"Amorim is confident in Mainoo’s potential, describing him as “the future of Manchester United".

Tottenham reporter Sam Tabuteau reports...

A top-quality winger has to be high on the wishlist for Thomas Frank.

Spurs were keen to sign Manchester City's Savinho in the summer and they are expected to be in the market for a wide player against next month.

Wilson Odobert, Mathys Tel and Brennan Johnson have all been unconvincing on the left, with Spurs far too reliant on attacking down their right.

A reliable option out wide would bring some much-needed balance to the Spurs side.

Man Utd and Arsenal explore Bazoumana Toure deal

09:42 , Alex Young

Manchester United and Arsenal have begun initial checks on Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure.

According to CaughtOffside, several Premier League sides are monitoring the 19-year-old Ivorian’s progress ahead of the January transfer window.

Touré has adapted quickly in the Bundesliga since joining Hoffenheim, registering two goals and five assists in 16 appearances this season.

Although Hoffenheim don’t want to sell in January and value him around €45million (£39.3m), interest is expected to intensify ahead of summer negotiations.

Manchester United and Liverpool monitor Bradley Barcola

09:39 , Alex Young

Manchester United and Liverpool are closely monitoring Bradley Barcola.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Bayern Munich are also very interested in the young Paris Saint-Germain forward.

Premier League rivals Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are also keeping tabs on his situation, but PSG have no intention of selling in January.

The French giants view Barcola as a key part of their project. Any potential move is therefore more likely to be discussed in the summer, and would likely command a huge fee.

Chelsea transfer guide: top priority

08:58 , Alex Young

Chelsea reporter Dom Smith reports...

Centre-back is where Chelsea are most light.

They have Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong, as well as Aaron Anselmino and Mamadou Sarr performing well out on loan.

But while therefore not short of numbers, the quality besides injured Levi Colwill ought to be better given how much Chelsea have spent.

Standard Sport understands Chelsea are set for a quiet January and may sign no one, but there is a keenness to add an experienced centre-back - most likely next summer.

Real Madrid make Franco Mastantuono decision

08:40 , Alex Young

Spanish publication Fichajes report that Liverpool have been told that Camavinga - who is also of interest to Arsenal - is not for sale. But their interest is unlikely to end.

Madrid views Camavinga as a cornerstone of its long-term project, with president Florentino Perez considering him indispensable, making a sale in January “impossible.”

Barcelona frustrated over Nathan Ake pursuit

07:57 , Alex Young

Barcelona are growing frustrated by their attempts to sign Manchester City defender Nathan Ake in the January transfer window.

Sport report that the centre-back is a key target for Barca in the upcoming window, but their own financial constraints and City’s high demands is hampering a deal.

Ake, who wants more playing time, fits Barça’s defensive needs, but Manchester City are asking for at least €25million (£21.8m), which Barcelona cannot easily afford under current budget limits.

Other Premier League clubs are also interested, making a deal harder to complete and could see Barca explore alternatives.

Arsenal transfer guide: top priority

07:55 , Alex Young

Arsenal reporter Matt Verri reports...

Keeping everyone fit is the real priority. When Arteta has his full squad available to him, there are no weaknesses.

If Arsenal were to dip into the transfer window in January, defensive reinforcements would likely have to be the focus.

White and Timber's fitness issues have left the Gunners short at right-back, with Declan Rice having to fill in on Saturday.

For all the efforts that have gone into bolstering the defensive strength in depth, injuries have still left Arsenal light at full-back.

Tottenham begin Leon Goretzka talks

07:45 , Alex Young

Tottenham are looking to take advantage of a bust-up at Bayern to sign Leon Goretzka.

Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuolgu says the player's agent is in talks with Spurs over a January deal, but it remains to be seen if Bayern would be willing to let him leave.

Spurs are now said to be best-placed to sign the midfielder, with head coach Thomas Frank approving interest.#

Sabuncuolgu said: “[Fenerbahce head coach] Domenico Tedesco doesn’t want a low-profile number eight. He’s looking for a strong, powerful, dominant, and high-profile name he can hand the starting shirt to.

"The candidates are clear, but there’s no definitive situation with any name. In terms of playing style, a player in the Goretzka mould is wanted.

"Goretzka’s agent is in talks with Tottenham, if Bayern lets him go."

Manchester United turn to cut-price James Garner deal

07:35 , Alex Young

Manchester United are monitoring James Garner's contract situation at Everton ahead of a January swoop.

The Mail report that United want to sign at least one midfielder in January, and Garner is a cut-price option.

Garner has just six months remaining on his contract with the Toffees, who hold an option to extend by 12 months and are keen to extend the terms.

But if no agreement can be reached, the door could be open for United to make a swoop.

Liverpool to rival Man City for £65m Antoine Semenyo

That's according to The Telegraph, who report that the release clause is not active until January 1 and runs until January 10.

The Athletic have previously reported that City is Semenyo's first-choice destination, amid rival interest in Manchester United. Tottenham failed with interest in the summer.
