Follow the latest updates live from the summer transfer window as Premier League clubs look to strengthen ahead of the new season, which gets under way in just 18 days’ time. Manchester United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho saw a major development occur when Borussia Dortmund publicly announced that he will not be leaving this summer, only for the Premier League club to retain full confidence that they will sign him before the 5 October deadline. However, a £100m offer was reportedly rejected as soon as Dortmund announced their intention to keep Sancho this season.
Arsenal are on the verge of completing the deal for Willian after he left Chelsea, and interest in Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes is growing with the club one of many in for his signature. Speaking of Arsenal, their former midfielder Aaron Ramsey is available this summer after Andrea Pirlo informed him that he is not in his Juventus plans next season.
Chelsea meanwhile have agreed a five-year deal with Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, but the asking price remains a problem with the German club now wanting £90m to let him leave this summer. The Blues are also looking at signing Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico as an alternative to Ben Chilwell, while Liverpool snapped up their left-back target by signing Kostas Tsimikas on a five-year deal from Olympiakos last night. Ciro Immobile has revealed an approach from Newcastle after his 36-goal, capocannoniere-winning season with Lazio.
“During the period in which there was talk of the possible purchase of Newcastle by the Sheikh’s fund they called my agent, Alessandro Moggi,” Immobile told Corriere Dello Sport.
“Then the Premier League did not approve that proposal, or the fund withdrew, I don’t remember well. I know they were also looking for an Italian coach, [Massimiliano] Allegri or [Luciano] Spalletti.
“I intend to tie myself to Lazio forever. The renewal will be for three years, so the contract will expire in 2025 when I turn 35.
“Before I arrived at Lazio, contacts with Napoli were frequent, but for one reason or another, we never went any further.
“Naples is the city where I was born, I always follow Napoli with affection, but what Lazio has given me and is giving me is priceless.”
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has completed his £15m move to Tottenham Hotspur to become Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer.
The Danish midfielder underwent a medical on Monday ahead of putting pen to paper on a long-term deal with the club.
The Spurs boss sees Hojbjerg as a key pivot in his team, after impressing in the middle of the park at Southampton. Right-back Kyle Walker-Peters is set to go the other way in a separate deal for £12m.
Neil Lennon has criticised “rogue” defender Boli Bolingoli after his “baffling” decision to fly abroad caused Celtic’s next two matches to be postponed.
The Belgian admitted he was “guilty of an error of judgement” after playing in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock despite having recently returned from Spain without quarantining.
Lennon admitted that it would be “very difficult” for the now quarantined Bolingoli to be welcomed back into the fold at Parkhead.
Gareth Bale is refusing to leave Real Madrid and will wait up to two years for his next match if necessary, according to the Mirror.
Bale's relationship with the club and manager Zinedine Zidane is at an all-time low, having refused to travel to Manchester to take on City in the Champions League.
And with two years remaining on a £600,000 per week contract, Bale appears intent on running out his deal, despite not playing since 24 June.
Brighton centre-back Ben White has gained a far few interested parties thanks to his form last season to help Leeds United to Championship promotion.
Sky Sports reports that the Seagulls have rejected a £22m offer from Leeds, who have made their interest in keeping him at Elland Road clear to their new Premier League rivals.
But the Sunday Star reports that both Liverpool and Chelsea are also keen on White and could look to challenge Leeds for his signature. The report adds that Chelsea are considering selling Antonio Rudiger in an effort to generate the funds needed to move for the 22-year-old White.
Chelsea continue their hunt for one last big-money signing, with Kai Havertz expected to be that man with the Blues hoping to secure a £70m move for the Germany international.
But reports in Spain suggest that Chelsea have been lining up alternatives, should they be required, with links to Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior emerging.
AS Diario reports that Chelsea first made contact with Madrid as early a November, with the Brazilian struggling to obtain regular first-team action as Zinedine Zidane preferred summer signing Eden Hazard in their attack.
Madrid are in no rush to sell, with Vinicius not only having five years remaining on his current contract but also having a reported £630m release clause.
Bayern Munich have issued their latest update on the future of midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
Thiago is keen to leave the club and wants to test himself in the Premier League, having already conquered La Liga and the Bundesliga during a trophy-laden career.
Liverpool have shown interest in the Spain midfielder, but are unwilling to meet Bayern's valuation of £30m for a player who has been fairly injury prone and tilting towards the later stages of his career, with Jurgen Klopp also not fully convinced that he would fit the current philosophy at Anfield.
Bayern will not stand in his way, but what they will hold out for is a transfer fee that meets their asking price, which Liverpool are yet to submit.
Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "Regarding Thiago, it's known that he told us he wanted to do something new.
"If a club approaches us that is willing to pay a fair transfer fee, we will work on it."
Arsenal's rather bold transfer plans will need a way of being funded before the club can press on with any summer signings.
Three names who continue to crop up on the radar at the Emirates are Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey, Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes and Chelsea forward Willian, while the club also want to sign Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid for another season.
That will take their spending in excess of £100m, which given Arsenal's rather dire financial state would require some hefty funding through player sales.
One of those appears to be striker Alexandre Lacazette, who despite being a first-team regular could be used to help boost the club's transfer kitty. The Sunday Star reports that Atletico Madrid are eyeing a £30m deal for Lacazette, which could also see talks progress for Partey to move in the opposite direction.
Don't expect any huge moves at Fulham this summer. Club director Tony Khan doesn't think they need it.
The Cottaghers secured an immediate return to the Premier League and Khan says the huge outlay in the summer of 2018 laid the foundations for their promotion.
"The investment we made was a big reason we got promoted," Khan said. "We spent on the future. I am very happy with the players I bought in 2018.
"I feel better about the club, it's not as if we have to build again and I expect the squad to look very similar to the one that got promoted.
"We won't spend £100m again, I don't think we need to. The best players we bought are still with us."
Manchester City will already lose one Silva this summer with David Silva set to depart when the season finishes, but Barcelona are being linked with a move for his namesake Bernardo.
The Telegraph reports that the Spanish club are keeping tabs on the Portuguese midfielder following his impressive development since joining City, although any fee could prove an issue for cash-strapped Barcelona.
As a result, the club are considering offering Nelson Semedo in any negotiations, with the Portugal international facing an uncertain future at the Nou Camp.
Real Madrid have announced that the loan move for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has been brought to an end, with the La Liga club not interested in signing him on a permanent deal.
Areola spent the 2019/20 season on loan at the Bernabeu, but following their Champions League exit and curtailment of their season, Areola has been sent back to the Ligue 1 club.
A Real Madrid statement read: "Real Madrid C. F. confirms it has brought Alphonse Areola's loan spell to an end.
The club would like to thank Areola for his dedication, professionalism and exemplary conduct this season and wishes him the best of luck in this new chapter.
Real Madrid also thanks PSG for the chance to have had Alphonse Areola as part of our squad.
Manchester United have already claimed that they are not afraid to walk away from the Jadon Sancho talks if Borussia Dortmund refuse to budge on their valuation, having already identified alternative targets.
One of those is Barcelona misfit Ousmane Dembele, according to ESPN, who has not hit the ground running at the Nou Camp due to injuries, poor form and rubbing his managers up the wrong way since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
It's claimed that Barcelona are not convinced about selling the 23-year-old given the scope that remains for his development, but could be open to a loan move with an obligation to buy to give them time to find a replacement.
Newcastle United are targeting Tottenham Hotspur’s out-of-favour wide-man Ryan Sessegnon as they look to strengthen on a budget following the collapse of their takeover deal, while Liverpool have told interested clubs including Leeds, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Southampton that sought-after Harry Wilson will cost £20m.
