Monday's transfer news and rumours: Arsenal to announce double deal, Liverpool 'agree' Thiago contract, Lionel Messi tells Barcelona he wants to leave

Follow the latest updates live from the summer transfer window as Premier League clubs look to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season, which begins in fewer than four weeks’ time. Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona may hinge on whether president Josep Bartomeu leaves or not, with reports that the Argentine will push for an exit unless he is replaced as the man in charge at the Nou Camp in the coming weeks. Manchester City continue to monitor the situation, with the club weighing up a move for the Barca great.

Arsenal are on the verge of announcing a new contract for captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a three-year deal worth £250,000 a week, and the club also hope to make progress this week in their pursuit of Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes. Borussia Dortmund meanwhile have insisted that they do not have to sell Jadon Sancho to Manchester United this summer, despite seeing a near-£40m loss in their financial results due to coronavirus.

Liverpool have expressed their interest in signing 29-year-old Thiago Alcantara this summer as he has just one year remaining on his contract, but the club will not meet Bayern Munich’s €30m valuation and hope to talk the German club down to a negotiated fee in the coming days. Follow the live updates below.

David Silva has spoken out after Lazio were left furious by his late decision to move back to Spain with Real Sociedad.
I have received several offers during all this time, but I chose Real because they are a club that is doing very well and because their style is perfect for my game.
Besides, I also know San Sebastian because I played at Eibar. The feelings I have are very good.
After I signed, I received many expressions of affection from many people. I arrive in a beautiful city, very calm and in this aspect, I decided together with my family.
Part of the decision is hers. I saw a lot of La Liga last year, I watched many of Real’s matches and they play very well. There’s a great ownership and an excellent coach. In the end they can do important things, there’s a good group and it will be a good challenge, exciting.
I can’t wait to start, when these changes happen, you want to start as soon as possible.
Paulo Dybala's agent, Jorge Antun, has dismissed speculation over the Argentine's future at Juventus.
Speculation suggests Andrea Pirlo is willing to dispense with the 26-year-old, but Antun claims that is false.
“I have read rumours in the newspapers these days that are completely false,” he told Calciomercato.it.
“Paulo Dybala is a Juventus player and happy to be one. We work with the club to renew his contract with our usual preparation.”
New: Telefoot claims Lille have accepted bids from Arsenal, Napoli and Everton for Gabriel, and it is up to the 22-year-old defender to pick his destination.
Arsenal have been particularly busy in the transfer window this week with several promising signs. Here's all the latest from the Emirates:
Arsenal are hoping to seal the signing of Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes for around £22m, according to ESPN.
Mikel Arteta is determined to strengthen his defence and sees the 22-year-old Brazilian as a key answer to what has long been a problem area for Arsenal, with William Saliba and Pablo Mari also expected to bolster that area of the pitch this season.
Lazio want to bring Felipe Anderson back to Rome, according to Gazetta Italia.
The West Ham winger has impressed during his time in east London, and Simone Inzaghi wants the 27-year-old to rejoin Lazio where he spent five years after arriving in Europe from Santos in 2013.
Done deal: Olympiacos have signed Jose Holebas from Watford on a one-year contract.
Holebas spent four years at the Greek club between 2010-2014 and returns aged 36 after Watford were relegated this summer.
More Chelsea news: the club could sign as many as three defenders this summer as Frank Lampard looks to sure up his leaky defence.
That's according to TalkSport, which claims Ben Chilwell is just the start. Manchester City struggler John Stones is reportedly on the wishlist, as is Brighton's Lewis Dunk.
Chelsea will sell Emerson Palmieri to Inter Milan in the coming weeks, according to the Express, paving the way for Ben Chilwell to join from Leicester.
One of Emerson or Marcos Alonso is expected to leave to free up room at left-back for £80m Chilwell, as well as contributing to the funds needed to sign the England international, and it seems Emerson is most likely to depart and rejoin his former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
Emerson began his career with local club Santos in Brazil and spent three years with Roma before signing for Chelsea, but has struggled to establish his place in the first XI.
Arsenal have signed 20-year-old Norwegian forward George Lewis on a free transfer.
Lewis was born in Rwanda and moved to Norway as a child, where he impressed with lower-tier clubs Tromso IL, Tromsdalen and Fram Larvik.
Lewis has signed a professional contract but will begin life in Steve Bould's Under-23 squad.
Edinson Cavani is set to be confirmed as a Benfica player over the next 24 hours, according to various reports.
Cavani is a free agent having left Paris Saint-Germain this summer. The 33-year-old scored 200 goals in 301 appearances for PSG.
Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure is on the verge of a transfer to Everton, according to getfootballnewsfrance.com, but there remains the stumbling block of a fee to be agreed between the two clubs.
Doucoure is one of Watford's most sought-after players following the club's relegation from the Premier League, and Everton have reportedly agreed terms with the midfielder, but have had an initial bid rejected by Watford.
Leeds have reportedly turned their attention to Germany defender Robin Koch, with the signing of Brighton centre-back Ben White seeming increasingly unlikely.

Koch, who represents Freiburg at club level, is 24 and joined the Bundesliga side from Kaiserslautern for €3.5m in 2017.

His value will have increased quite a fair bit since then, however.
With Manchester United's defensive frailties on show against Sevilla on Sunday evening, they could actually do with the return of loanee Chris Smalling from Roma.

But the England international's performances in Serie A this season have attracted the interests of another Italian team in Inter Milan, who are home to Smalling's former United team-mates Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez.

Antonio Conte's side, who finished second in Italy's top flight and have a Europa League final to play after defeating Shakhtar Donetsk yesterday evening, could pick up centre-back Smalling for around £20m, according to Metro.

BREAKING

We said heads would roll at Barcelona, and a day after Quique Setien was sacked as head coach, director of football Eric Abidal has followed him out of the door.
The former left-back spent six years at the Nou Camp as part of their all-conquering side who won the Champions League in 2009 and 2011 and four La Liga titles in five years, and returned to become director of football in June 2018.
However, this season's failures has fallen at his door just as much as it has Setien's, who was dismissed on Monday evening, and the same board meeting has determined that Abidal is at fault for Barcelona's humiliating Champions League exit last week in their 8-2 humbling by Bayern Munich.
Major news from the women's game has seen Manchester City announce the signing of World Cup winner Rose Lavelle.

The 25-year-old has completed a move from Washington Spirit to OL Reign, but as part of the deal she will spend a short period with the Women's Super League side to follow her international teammate Sam Mewis in moving to Manchester.

Lavelle has explained her reasons for the switch ahead of the new season:
Leicester are moving to bolster their defence by luring Atalanta and Belgium full-back Timothy Castagne, Calciomercato reports.

The 24-year-old was first linked to the Foxes in March.

The club is still keen on the £20m-rated defender but may face stiff competition from Paris St Germain.

Castagne is predominantly a right-back but can also play on the left suggesting he could replace Chelsea-bound Ben Chilwell.
Juventus are willing to sell Paulo Dybala this summer - for the right price.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the 26-year-old is no longer a key figure in first-team plans under new manager Andrea Pirlo, and as a result the club will consider moving him on.

The move has alerted Manchester United and Tottenham, with both Premier League clubs having shown interest in him previously to the point that reports emerged last summer that United were ready to sign Dybala until Juve pulled the plug.
Ronald Koeman has confirmed he is in talks to quit his role as Netherlands boss and take the vacant seat at Barcelona.

"It is only definite when my signature is on the document. Until then I cannot say anything, even if I wanted to," Koeman said.

The Dutchman is expected to be named as Quique Setien's replacement in the next few hours.
Ryan Bertrand is set to sign a three-year contract extension at Southampton, according to TalkSport
Bertrand has one year remaining on his current deal and Ralph Hasenhuttl is keen to secure the full-back's future, having already agreed a long-term extension for captain James Ward-Prowse earlier this week.

Lazio are said to be furious with David Silva after the midfielder failed to inform them he was rejecting their contract offer to join Real Sociedad following his departure from City - who have reignited their interest in Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, while former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey looks set to remain at Juventus as the club do not want to sell the Welshman this summer.
