Transfer news LIVE: Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea latest today
The January transfer window is upon us with clubs set to splash the cash again. Premier League sides will undoubtedly spend big again this month, with the battle for a top four finish meaning the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and even Arsenal will be assessing the options available to add to their squad.
United look set to be busy with injuries in midfield sending Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scrambling to the January sales. Sporting star Bruno Fernandes is a target with Dinamo Zagreb’s Dani Olmo emerging as another possible option. Arsenal will be active too with new manager Mikel Arteta desperate to add to his squad and put his stamp on it as soon as possible. A defender or two are high on his shopping list with Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng the latest name in the frame. RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano is a long-term target and could be available this month too.
Chelsea, having been banned from signing anyone in the summer, are back in business in this window with Frank Lampard shopping for a striker and a new left-back. Lyon’s Moussa Dembele could be the former with England international Ben Chilwell the No 1 choice for the latter. We'll have the latest rumours, done deals and updates throughout the day here:
The German defender has emerged as a target for Mikel Arteta following the season-ending injury to Calum Chambers. The veteran centre-back could prove to be a quick fix for the Gunners, but Flick has revealed the 31-year-old has impressed during the mid-season break.
“Jerome is a Bayern player. He has trained well during the winter break,” Flick said.
The Mexican has been an important part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side since moving to Molineux in 2018, scoring 34 goals in all competitions. His success has seen him linked with a move to Old Trafford and Solskjaer admits he was impressed with his performance against his side.
“Another good player being linked with us,” Solskjaer said following the draw.
Barcelona will not allow Arturo Vidal to leave this month amid interest from Inter Milan.
Sport claim the Chilean, whose contract expires in 2021, has been informed he will not be leaving this month.
After scoring six goals and adding an assist this season, Vidal has grown unhappy at a lack of playing time, but the La Liga giants will not sanction a move back to Serie A until the summer.
Manchester City have drawn up a list of five centre-backs to help solve their defensive crisis, The Athletic report.
Inter's Milan Skriniar and Shakhtar's Mykola Matviyenko are thought to be among those being monitored. While Nathan Ake and Caglar Soyuncu are also on City's radar.
Manchester United and Manchester City are both considering moves for Tottenham's Harry Winks.
The Athletic report that the clubs are looking into a move for the midfielder due to the England international seemingly not suiting the needs of new manager Jose Mourinho.
Winks is a target for United this month as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to revive their season.
Bayern Munich do not take long to circle the best talent elsewhere in the Bundesliga.
So it is no surprise they have enquired about Achraf Hakimi, according to Marca.
The report suggests Bayern are more keen on the player than his parent club Real Madrid, with his two-year loan to Borussia Dortmund set to expire this summer.
Real Madrid are keen on Timo Werner and will make a £68m move for the Germany striker this summer.
El Desmarque report the La Liga giants are keen on the RB Leipzig star, with Zinedine Zidane not keen on Luka Jovic, who signed from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer.
Flamengo boss Jorge Jesus insists the club will not sell super talent Reinier for €30m.
Jesus is adamant the Brazilians cannot sell the 17-year-old so cheaply, and pointed to Benfica knowing the value of their players.
Real Madrid are keen to add Reinier to their Castilla squad.
Jesus said: "Reinier cannot be sold for 30 million euros! At Benfica that is spectacular because they sell players even above their value. Flamengo still doesn't know how to value its players."
Carles Alena activated a clause in his Barcelona contract that allowed him to seize control of his future and force a loan move if he did not play a certain amount of games.
Alena is the only player with this clause, claim Sport, which stated that he could leave on loan if he did not play a stated amount of games.
The talented midfielder made his debut for Real Betis on Sunday.
If the conditions are it’s something Oli really wants to do, and it works for the club, and it works for me and the squad, then it’s something that could happen, but only when all 3 of those bases are covered.
