Transfer news bulletin including Craig Gordon's Hearts twist plus Kilmarnock manager latest and Tony Watt warning

Craig Gordon could yet make a dramatic return to England as reports suggest the Hearts keeper is being eyed by clubs in the Championship and League One.

Gordon 's renaissance has been one of the feel-good Scottish football stories of 2021 as he's reclaimed the No.1 Scotland jersey thanks to his fantastic Tynecastle form.

At 39, few would expect him to go looking for another challenge away from his boyhood club now.

But his contract is up at the end of the season and the Edinburgh Evening News report that various clubs down south are considering a move - if Robbie Neilson and the Jambos can't strike a renewal.

Meanwhile Championship Kilmarnock have kept their cards close to their chest when it comes to the new permanent Rugby Park boss.

But three names WON'T be in the running for the role after a triple reveal on the airwaves.

The undertaking in Ayrshire is no small task given the remit is to return to the Premiership at the first time of asking.

After Tommy Wright oversaw a disappointing first half of the season - sitting outside of the Championship's promotion play-off places in fifth at the halfway point - he was dismissed.

Former Hamilton boss Brian Rice is itching to get back into the game after leaving Accies but he told BBC Sportsound on Wednesday: "Well, they've not put the feelers out to me.

Asked if he put the 'feelers' out to Kilmarnock, he continued: "Yes, I did.

"No response, was the reply."

Former Hibs boss Jack Ross and current stand-in James Fowler meanwhile are not interested in taking the vacancy full-time, according to the BBC.

And Tony Watt looks increasingly likely to join Dundee United on a pre-contract deal but he's been warned by former Scotland keeper Rab Douglas to think carefully as the prospect of a January move is raised.

Watt has been in scintillating form at Fir Park with ten goals in 24 appearances this season, putting him back into Scotland contention.

There's even a chance his imminent transfer could be brought forward next month by Tam Courts for a fee, though he may look elsewhere for a short-term striking solution.

However Douglas worries Watt may fall into the same trap Lawrence Shankland did towards the end of his time at United, with a lack of service frustrating the former Tannadice hitman.

Writing in his Courier column, Douglas said: "From United’s point of view it will be a great signing but only if they give Tony the sort of service any centre-forward needs.

"Shankland didn’t get it and the same could be said for Marc McNulty.

"It’s not just Tony’s club success that will depend on that happening – it could be a place in the Scotland squad for the World Cup."
